Norval United feast sold out By Dorothy McLean An estimated number of somewhere between 1000 and people enjoyed the Norm United Church Chicken Barbecue held at Maple Lodge Farms on Saturday June barbecue which beea an annual event since hoi grown In popularity over the yean The flrat year the committee planned on feeding BOO people and many of the women didnt hint that they could prepare enough salads and plea for that many but they had a very day Over the years they gradually Increased the number they prepared for to 1500 and several times from to people This year for the flrat time there wasnt a crumb left for the cleanup crew to enjoy on the Sunday following Buns and ham were purchased for ranch after the grounds were cleaned up picnic tables returned etc With aD groups pitching In to help the well planned and barbecue was a very successful event The weather was Ideal for the occasion although the weather forecast for the day caused some concern to the committee In case of rain the barbecue was to have been held in Hut- tonvllle public school Early in the afternoon the committee decided to take a chance and they set up st Msple Lodge Farms They were thankful that the hail and thun derstorms predicted didnt hit this locality About pm the food began to run out Salads were all gone and replaced by sliced tomatoes When the tomatoes were all gone a free ticket for a piece of pie was added Then the pie was all gone and the last down people had to settle for a half chicken and a bun with a corresponding reduc tion In the price of the ticket This included several who had worked all and bad not taken time to eat About eight pieces of chicken and a few buns were left Someone came along looking for lef tovers and purchased them THE HERALD Wednesday Jne II Saturday June Donna was honoured with several showers previous to her wedding dsy Miscellaneous showers were for a party and presented her with a gift the same evening that friends of the groom held a stag party for bun Kathy Carter was hostess for a party In honour of bridetobe Debbie Reynolds and her fiance Michael Jones of Los Alamos New Mexico recently when Michael visited with the Reynolds family for several days About BO friends and relatives attended the party and presented Debbie and Michael with a purse instead of gifts as they will be living in New Mexico Debbie and her brother and celebrated her birthday on the wedding day A good sized congregation attended tbe anniversary service of Norval Presbyterian Church and celebration of years of the Presbyterian Church In Canada on Sunday June 15 Rev Norman McMillan of Caledonia was the guest minister for service It coincidental that years ago his week be was first Inducted Into the charge as a young man starting In ministry He Mrs Gordon was organist Following the service a luncheon served In the newly remodelled basement Sandwiches relishes and cookies were enjoyed while Mends had a chance to visit Invitations had been sent out to former members of the co ngregation and several old timers returned for oc casion The social committee In charge of the luncheon were Mrs John M McClure Mrs Mrs Cunningham and Mrs BUI A new celling and lighting were installed In the basement prior to the anniversary There was a good display of old pictures of former ministers including one of players who put on plays directed by Rev Mc Millan when he was here one was of the Choral Society taken when tbe McDonalds were here plus old Sunday School pictures dating back to the twos There were also pictures of former and Couple Club groups and of choirs Artifacts on display Included old record books an old Bible and a communion set Mr and Mrs Charles Cbesney and Carl of Cleaveland Ohio spent a week at their cottage at Willow Park
