playground program for French children In Georgetown Is proving to be as successful as its two previous years of operation Marguerite head instructor of the program explained that there has been an average of 23 to 30 children a t tending day However she also stated that his Is a drop from the previous years The grant which was awarded this year to Diver tissement Pour Enfants from the Opportunity for Youth program totalled which Is a smaller sum of money than previously awarded This year the monies obtained do not lend themselves to caver bus transportation For this reason Marguerite feels that the attendance has dropped Many children on the buses taxi that takes a run to the St Francis of Assist School and a second run to the 15th Sideroad However the taxi is unable to carry the load which the bus system did explained Marguerite The children arrive at ttip SacreCoeur Church hall at about 10 a and spend the day doing arts crafts and participating in a number of sporting activities Arts and crafts include such things as paper mache and working with clay molds etc Marguerite emphasized that a porta is one of the main centres of activities Such games as baseball football floor hockey and any type of sport you can think of are all enjoyed by the children One special event per week la planned which includes treasurs hunts barbecues field days etc Head instructors for the Divertissement Pour Enfant an Marguerite Armond and Rene The other instructors are Angela Mar- tinea u Pauline Casey Perron and Ltse The excellently planned program gives the children a chance to meet new children ploy with their new friends and share the experience of learning with their new acquaintances in its second week CAPS 75 Is already proving to be as successful as last summer CAPS Creative Activities for Preschoolers sponsored by a federal grant is being held at Knox Presbyterian Church under of Breads and Kevin of Georgetown Under the Opportunities for Youth Program CAPS was given a total of is which covers the wages of the students employed explained that the registration fee which is charged per week covers the cost of the materials and equipment needed Registration is on a weekly basis and any child between the ages of three and five years old can enroll However explained that enrollment has been so suc cessful that a number of weeks have already been filled A child attends the program either in the morning or in the afternoon for It is a halfday affair The schedule was set up because Df ten the preschoolers tend to be satisfied with staying for only the morning or the af ternoon This also allows more children to partake in the program It is a well project with and Kevin supervising the project for second year Marie Carolyn Bird Karen and David Clarke have been hired Instructors Their hands are Indeed full with last weeks enrollment totalling about children and this week about children The wellqualified and en thusiastic students plan a busy and active program for the children As a group games are played and songs ere sung Later the children are divided into small groups so that more Individualized attention can be paid One group might colour play outdoors have a music session learn nil about nature or do one of the many activities the students make available stated that it enrollment continues as well as It baa up to now CAPS 75 will be as successful as the previous year However registration la and some weeks are already completely booked up If anyone la interested In enrolling their preschooler in the program Brenda or Kevin Fisher should be contacted at Not only does CAPS give preschoolers the opportunity to participate in crafts and games but It also enables them to meet new friends At first glance It could be considered a dlaster area But looks are deceiving In this case for the Glen Williams Community Hall is actually undergoing a tremendous facelift Steve Mitchell from Toronto a previous resident of Glen Williams Is in charge of the reconstruction of the boll A grant under the federal governments Opportunities for Youth program totalling Is making bis project feasible Out of the or so applications five students were hired to do the work necessary in order to restore the hall to useable condition Ken Smith Stan Hancock James Taylor and Davison were those hired An extension which was built onto the front of the building years ago has already been removed he inside partially stripped The project indeed is well underway Steve a fourth year ar chitectural student at the University of Toronto applied for the position as supervisor was chosen Steve explained that the monies obtained from the grant cover only the wages Money which has been voluntarily raised and which Is still yet to be raised goes towards the materials needed An auction sale held in the Glen in the spring gave the project a great by raising some Sheridan Nurseries donated 100 bushes which were sold making another and residents of the Glen have made private donations However Steve plana on carrying through a number of other fundraising events for the materials still required The hall which was built In 1870 should have Its face completely lifted by Sep tember Steve plans on removing the floor so that holding tanks for washrooms and kitchen facilities can be installed A mezzanine will be built over the kitchen and washrooms and a library is planned to be housed In a section of the building Once hall is completed it win be used community hall open for meetings and any other events the residents of the Glen wish to bold in the building Steve anticipates a possible daycare centra to be set up In the hall but this Is only a possible future plan Steve commented on participation from the Glea residents Everyone has been so helpful Kid will come over and offer help I never thought It would turn out to be such a big thing At present the ball doesnt look like much but with the ambition and hard work everyone is supplying by September It will once again serve as a thriving centre of activity for Glen Williams SONY Complete Line Sales Service Authorized Dealers WIGO
