Friday evening was pleasantly spent In our lounge with George Howe and Brian Munkley supplying the very excellent music on piano and drums Scarcely room on the door unless you were first up to dance They will be back again Thursday Friday and Saturday saw many busy people out all over town standing with their poppy boxes and they were well received by our towns people This Is the one and only time that the town is canvassed Tor money In this capacity Every nickle dime quarter or more that you goes to our poppy fund and that it costs this legion and every other legion cents That is what we pay tor every poppy Word from Ottawa Is that 10 million popples would be worn this past Saturday and Sunday while the Royal Conadion Legion holds its annual poppy day Most of this money goes to those exservice people and their dependents who are In financial distress Comrade Cleator states that last year command on behalf of all legions In Canada present to Hospital for Sick Children worth or heart testing equipment We are very proud to have been a part of this gesture Our Remembrance Week end was one of the best if not the best people including members and their wives many widows of our late comrades members guests and our exceptionally well known head table guest sat down to A beautiful roast beef dinner served by our ladles from the Knox Presbyterian Church They did a job George Greig piped our head table guests their seals These guests Rev Kelvin Johnson and wife Connie Col John Barber Rev Ross Duncan were accompanied by Ladles Auxiliary President Jan and Jim Branch President Denny Wright and his wife Dorothy Branch Padre Rev Peter Barrow and his wife Carol Mayor Tom Hill and his guest 1st Vice President Harold and bis wife Elsie 2nd Vice President Pat Ahamberlain and his wife Doris I don a more humorous witty or enjoyable group In all my years of attending these remembrance dinners Rev Kelvin changed one single bit unless was to be even more charming than ever Ho kept us laughing each tune be approached the mike Col John R takes a back seat to no one In his wit and and he had the leosant duty of introducing lit guest speaker Rev Major Ross Cameron This gen was on outstanding speaker and It was a great pleasure to have him to our legion Although solemn In certain areas as he reminisced over some of hs personal ex priences Injected more humorous anecdotes to the evening He closed with the words The legion serves a purpose we should pass this purpose on to our young along with our wealth of experience that we have achieved today Don sit back and bask on past glories but Involve new energies and keep our legions at the top where they are Coi Barber is a most remarkable man and has had a brilliant career Travelled around the world twice by boat and has been to countries Jeff was bugler during our Ceremony past President Ward made the toast to our fallen comrades and Rev Kelvin Johnson read In Flanders Fields and I have never heard It said with more feeling Thanks so much it was Just beautiful Gifts were presented to Rev Kelvin Johnson Col Jon Barber and Rev Major Ross and flowers tor their wives Mayor Tom Hill brought greetings from the town of Hal ton Hills and ex pressed the pleasure It was to be associated with our branch as an Member and the fine relationship the town of Georgetown and Branch 120 have always enjoyed Ladles Auxiliary President Jan hod the pleasant duty of presenting to Branch President Denny Wright a cheque for from the Auxiliary and comrade Denny said how appreciative he and his executive and branch mem are of all the hard work the ladies do and bow well we are supported in all legion projects whenever asked He mentioned the many hours that are put In catering to weddings and banquets the plowing match last year and now the weekly bingoes Our branch Is no different than all nourishing branches across Canada and when he says we d be nothing without the ladies I say Amen to hat no matter If the ladies are in the auxiliary or the branch Our good friends Jimmy and Maggie Murphy were at the dinner and we welcomed them with love as we did all our widows Comrade Audrey Martin did her usual capable Job of decorating the head table and setting out name plates We look to Audrey to fulfill this annual job of hers and we know she enjoys it also Our member Dorothy Stone had our book of brought up to date and this Is beautifully done and we Dorothy and Audrey for Jobs well done President Denny Wright hod the pleasure of presenting a Legion Year Service Pin to Col John Barber and Col Barber replied that this was the finest decoration he had ever received We held a service In Glen Williams shortly after 12 on Sunday at the Glen Cenotaph There were several members on parade for this occasion and a good many Glen citizens as well We had the firemen accompany us led by Dore who laid a wreath as well as the Auxiliary Branch and Imperial Section Colour Parties We must apologize to our Glen friends for the lack of a piper and a bugler Our piper and bugler were in Erin attending that legions service and the intentions were that they would be back in time for our Glen service but as II happened Erin were running a little late which unfortunately made it Impossible for piper George and bugler WO Jeff Jobb to be at the service Honour Guards at the cenotaph were cadets Doug Janice McDonald Allen Vernon and Rose Wright Joining us at our service in the Glen along with the Rev Peter Baraw was Mayor Tom Hill who addressed the congregation Mayor Hill said with our fellow Canadians all across Canada we pause to remember those who sacrificed their lives that we might live in freedom We remember those who fought In both world wars and although those from the war of their ranks are thinner as the years go by we express our gratitude to those who are still among us We remember those of world war two and all other conflicts the world over where Canadians served so valiantly Also remembering those in hospitals though yet olive sacrificed their capacity to live a norma life His parting words were the sacrifice of these Canadians were made in the name of freedom may our efforts in the future be made In the name of peace Shortly after Branch 120 under the direction or Parade Marshall Pat Chamberlain members for mod up outside the branch followed by several Ladies Auxiliary members followed by the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department led by Chuck Tyler Region of Police Department led by Commander District One Floyd Schwa Squadron ted by Copt C Cousens 2nd C Vernon and 2nd Ann Smith Scouts and colour party Army Cadets Gerry Gale Robert Pie Larry Taylor Pte Kevin Harrison with with Sgt The Lome Scots Militia Honour Guard were waiting for us when we arrived at the cenotaph along with quite a few on lookers who were waiting to take part in the service Counciller Harry Levy made the opening address in the absence of the Mayor Rev Peter Barrow then look over the service which Included the singing of God Our Help I Ages Past Prayer of In vocation The Lords Prayer said by all and he introduced Rev Tom of the Georgetown and District Ministerial Association who ready the holy scripture There were close to 2 doxen wreaths bid at the cenotaph including one from the Government of Canada by Reed MMP Town of Hills Legion 120 Imperial Section Police Fire Department Lome Scots and many private citizens Fred played the organ for our hymns and during the laying of the wreaths the honour rolls were ready out by First Vice President Harold Post President and Deputy Zone Commander Norm Ward W W and killed In action in Korea 1951 2 Perhaps there are many more of you who fit into this or dose to It but the only one I herd of was our
