Three setting computer Private showing of primitive art Agnes Olive one of the most talented potters In the area held a private showing last Saturday in her home in Terra Cotta displaying her many pieces of art which she has created over the past year Although Agnes does not consider herself an expert or an extremely talented potter her work is certainly tradlctive to her beliefs The clay pieces on the tables on the shelves and on the walla displayed In a complimentary fashion related Agnes love and enthusiasm for her work Agnes has centered much of her work on a primitive style of pottery Using sticks stones fossils and creative Inserts as mushrooms and leaves often using Terra Cotta clay she has come up with a distinctive unique and earthy touch to her work The primitive types of pottery and wall hangings are of glazes and by controlling the amount of air in the kiln when firing the pieces are affected in colour At times the pieces will retain color of raw clay or they will take an entirely new tint such as black yelloworange hue where the flames have licked the pot Agnes Is the only patter in this area who is working outside firing her pieces in pits fed by fires of wood and cow dung it Is her home in Terra Cotta which sits peacefully atop a hill overlooking a truly wondrous scene which inspires Agnes I m trying to get back to nature I think that m turning very earthy la happening to me right now but 1 don think I ve ever enjoyed working with clay as much as I do now explained Agnes For the past few months Agnes primitive works have been her pet project however she does realize that many prefer glazed pieces and she too admits I like to work with glares as well because I love color However even In her glazed pottery Agnes bursts through and her unique distinctive style is evident During her rive years of experimenting with clay always trying different techniques and tools Agnes has learned to apply her own creativity In her work for there are no two pieces alike The only I have duplicated new project this year that of making wine glasses 1 have tried to make each wine glass look slightly different but also as a set Agnes tackles her pottery with much vigour excitement and seriousness It s not that I wish to come across as a snob for holding a open house I have viced people who have shown much Interest in my work I am trying very hard to keep my showing In a nice personal atmosphere I have this fear that If I advertise that the house will be filled and I could not devote my lime to my viewers I wish I want to be able to have the time to explain the various pieces and to be able to answer any and all of the questions asked ex plained Agnes As soon as It la finalized Agnes will be working on a project with students of the
