Description
A tram is shown on the bridge trestle over the Twelve Mile Creek.
The card was commissioned for local sale by J.S. Flumerfelt, Postmaster for Bronte. His son was Allie Flumerfelt. Bronte Post Office was located on Bronte Road, south of Lakeshore on the west side. It was closed in the 1960's when Oakville took over Trafalgar Township.
The Cataract Power Company established the Hamilton Radial Railway in 1894 and extended service to the west bank of Sixteen Mile Creek in 1904. When the Radial Bridge was completed in 1906, the line was carried over to a terminal building that still stands at the southeast corner of Randall and Thomas Streets. The tracks followed what is now Rebecca Street to McCraney's Corners (at Fourth Line) then to Bronte, Burlington and Hamilton.
Notes
The original black and white photograph was coloured by hand.
