Books are still popular at libraryummer Reading is now in fullswing, and by the looks of it,Sreading is alive and wellamongst the kids in Oakville.As of this week, there have beenabout 3,000 sign-ups and 1,000 return-ing participants, and the numbers con-tinue to grow.Books are by far the most popularformat in which children are doingtheir reading, with DVDs, magazinesand audiobooks following far behind.If youre looking for some recom-mendations on which books to readnext, the top five reported items areDiary of a Wimpy Kidby Jeff Kinney,And Then It Happenedby M. Wade,Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallowsby J.K. Rowling, Dork Diaries by RachelRenee Russell and Pink Around theRinkby Victoria Kann. New this year at the library, we haveweekly drop-ins that allow children tofurther immerse themselves in theSummer Reading Splash theme. Theyinvolve games, a craft, and for the olderkids, an interactive book talk. A weeklyhandout sheet includes word searches,puzzles, mazes and jokes.
