- The black and white photograph shows the harbour entrance and Lake Ontario, with the lighthouse on the left. The smokestack and roof of the Bronte Steam mill (opened in 1858) shows over the trees on the east side while the waterway curves west into the inner harbour.
The photograph is likely taken from the vantage point of the Lake Shore Road or Triller Street as it was then named.
West of the harbour entrance, there were extensive marshes which continued nearly a mile north along the east bank of the Twelve Mile Creek. After much delay, the harbout was dredged and deepened during its construction, and was completed in 1856, thanks to the Bronte Harbour Company.

- The stamp is King George V wearing the Admiral of the Fleet uniform. It is 2 cents. The postmark is: "BRONTE ONT. JUN 07 30".
The "Bronte River" is the popular name of Twelve Mile Creek.
