Under Mannings horseman- ship, The Mighty Quinn finished the course as gracefully and competently as it looked, posting a time of 21.54 seconds with zero faults. The Mighty Quinn wore the winning rib- bon as the horse, with Manning aboard, kicked up dust as the top eight riders made their winning gallop around the outdoor arena following the jump off. Manning took home $900 for the victory. Jen Jones (aboard L'Eau De Vie) was sec- ond in 21.81 seconds; Jackie Chong (In A Hearbeat) was third (24.50 seconds); Diana Dionisi (Platinum Promise) was fourth (24.77); Tayo McLean (Fabiola) placed fifth (24.88); Erik Boesveld (Ritz) came sixth (25.62); Paige Howe (Made You Look) was seventh; and Camille King (SH Shuttlebug) was eighth (27.48). I thought 3ft., $3,000 and people were really drawn to it, said Bertin, noting riders from across all skill levels and age groups rose to the challenge. From teens to adults, aspiring riders to those more experienced, the show was enter- taining for the crowd, a challenge to its par- ticipants and an inspiration to young riders learning the sport. While the international shows once hosted by Jim Bertin drew competitors from around the globe, there was no shortage of those tak- ing up the challenge Wednesday with a total of 40 riders atop their mounts. My family and I have been part of the Oakville community for 40 years and it gives me great pleasure to be able to host a horse show as exciting as this one in our town, Bertin stated in the show's official program. That statement concluded with the words I look forward to seeing everyone again next year. Judging by Bertins smile at the shows end, it appears this show was the first of many to come. In addition to offering riding lessons for all ages, the two stables feature pony camps. The Oakville Equestrian Centre also offers adult-oriented riding events through nearby trail systems. Riders at both stables also compete in various shows throughout the year at other stables, but Wednesdays show marked a similar event right here in town. A 2ft./$2,000 Jumper Classic Show is set for Sept. 5 at Bertin Riding Stables. For infor- mation, log onto www.bertinstables.com or www.oakvilleequestriancentre.ca. The rugby rivalry is through the schools and not so much through me. Theyre friends of mine.
