The second annual Freedom Walk will take place in Toronto on Sept. 18. This year, Free-Them has partnered with Freedom Relay Canada and Stop Child Trafficking to make this a nation- al and global campaign. The event aims to bring awareness and to fight human trafficking in both Canada and abroad. Organizers say there are 27 million people in slavery today and human traf- ficking is a $32 billion a year industry. Every minute, two children are traf- ficked for sexual exploitation. The Freedom Walk will take place at the Oliver & Bonacini Events at the Toronto Board of Trade, 77 Adelaide St. W. More than 500 people are expected to attend this years 5K walk that begins at 10 a.m. and includes breakfast. It will feature words from some distinguished Canadian voices on human trafficking, including MP Joy Smith, sex trafficking survivor Timea Nagy, Constable Lepa Jankovic, Free- Them founder and Canada's Women of the Year 2011 nominee Shae Invidiata. Other dignitaries will include MPs Olivia Chow and Terence Young, EVE founding member Trisha Baptie, Sex Trade 101 founder Natasha Falle and Miss Canada 2011 Tara Teng.
