Sounds of summer By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Halton police have been involved in more car collisions so far this year than last but fewer were the fault of the officer behind the wheel. A report presented by Halton Police Chief Gary Crowell to Thursdays meeting of the Halton Regional Police Service Board, stated there were a total of 70 Halton Regional Police Service vehicle collisions $158,780 in damage between Jan. 1 and June 30 this year. There were a total of 59 such collisions over the same time last year with damages of $61,789. That was up over 2009 when there were 57 collisions and damage of f$111,392 in the first six months o the year. Of this years 70 police colli- sions, 29 were classified in the report as being non-preventable where someone struck the officers vehicle. The other 41 were listed as preventable the fault of the officer. The report broke those pre- ventable collisions into numerous categories, citing one accident happened because the officer was rHalton police are looking fo two suspects following the Sunday morning armed robbery of the Telus store at 3513 Wyecroft Rd. The incident began at around 11 a.m. when two men entered the store brandishing handguns. Police said the suspects approached the front counter and demanded various 3G and 4G smart phones. The two employees in the store at the time handed over the phones at which point the suspects fled the area. In total, police said, the sus- pects made off with approximately $30,000 worth of cell phones. Two Oakville residents face benefits-related fraud charges after Halton Region complained to police.
