Opponents make proposal of four month route study llylOHITAYlOR Herald staff v rller The Interested Citizens Group ICG has suggested a four month review of the pro posed Bradley Georgetown corridor route in com with the Bradley Kit Milton route and has agreed to abide by the findings of such a study The ICG has proposed that an independent agent accept able the ICG the govern and Ontario Hydro carry out a study of the two routts originally proposed when hydro corridor issue first arose The agent would be given data already accumulated in the Bradley Georgetown study conducted by Ontario Hydro which includes access lo Kit The ICG wrote to both Pre mier William Davis and Energy Minister James Taylor asking meeting to discuss their proposal before making it known to the public Premier Davis ofice replied hat the premier would be too busy lo hold such a meeting Mr lor office replied that the meeting would not be before the new yiar In the view of the ICG the matter is too urgent to be delayed and as a result they have decided to mount a massive publicity campaign to bring their pro posal to the public attention The ICG has slressed that the proposal doet not contain any new studies and will be limited to existing data The ICG says ihai In his way the time allotted to the study can be kept to a period of four months Other routes in tion to those mentioned such as the Bruce to route would not be included in the this time In a news release published last week the ICG said that Ontario Hydro public Image is suffering as a result of the conflict over the corridor Ac cording to the ICG Ontario Hydro appears the public as a huge Insensitive bureau attempting to ride roughshod over the righti of a group or people This image has been en by he fact that local newspapers and other media hove clearly informed the pub lic that the Interested Citizens have never for a specific removal of the corridor but have asked only for in Inde pendent agency the general situation and have agreed to accept Ihi resulting finding with no further resist he report continues The ICG points but that all Interested of the ince have a and per sonal involvement with and dependence upon Hydro The Ontario government has also suffered damage to its public Image as a result of its role of responsibility for Hydro through the minis of energy As evidence of his the ICG points out that with the exception of one ding the ridings between Hal ton and the Bruce and rich areas are solidly Liberal The corridor problem has been an issue In each election Legal procedures still open to the ICG be used in defence of their rights and properly could delay the line from Bradley for eight months or longer the ICG said The citizens have amply demonstrated their lo defend their rights by legal action and will continue to do bo the ICG said ICG pointed out the Ontario Hydro has said In the past that there is a growing need for power In Kitchener and a risk of brownouts Ontario Hydro plans call for a transformer station at Kitchener by lff7B according lo their Bradley Environmental Study It Is evident that the Kilch is necessary feasible recommend by Hydro engineers and one that can be developed as read ily the Milton line the proposal said It has ample possibilities to ensure that no power would be bottled up Bruce It further provides for more economical construction costs and export A Thus It is a reason able worthy of with the Milton line The ICG said the type of review it is proposing would not be a cosily and lengthy along the lines of the one done by the for Ihc concerned Pickering ll would provide at least a the consideration given so amply over many months to mother group of people the pas concludes failure and had to be pushed from In died the corridor as well but we found that just true The whole thing is madden Mr Reed added We ve been taken by the system In other words the government has used the system to their advantage to accomplish something of dubious merit Mr Reed said he would continue to stand behind the Interested Citizens Group in Mr Reed speculated that the reason the government may bo refusing to hold an study into the proposed Bradley Georgetown route is because they know the study will show Ontario Hydro is wrong in the choice il made and the government will hove to go through the whole pro cess again I believe that at the core of heir reasoning he said There still lime conduct an independent study Mr Reed sold he agree with all the positions of Ontario Hydro but in many respects Hydro is the fall meeting them at their lenco he added Mr Schneider said the ICG has always been reasonable and rational In Its dealings with he provincial govern men It would appear thai the way you make yourself heard Is to say you re going to shoot some Hydro people and blow up some Hydro towers he said As time goes on the conclusion will come that If you wont to talk to the gov eminent you have to threaten We have no objection with hem campaign announcing their proposals for solving the conflict over the Bradley Georgetown hydro corridor since Premier Davis refused to meet with the ICO at all and Energy
