Bloc Bombers The Super girls never quite pulled together in this game and suffered from a lack or effort by most of their more experienced players though Kim Keller and Christine Wilcox all work well and showed some good play The Blue Bombers showed some good passing and in this game with Senior girls Acton The game between Acton and Arsenals was a ing one with the final score favour of Arsenals The girls had difficulty field a team and Todd Beckett the Arsenals coach very sport waited minutes Ac tos Girls fielded 9 players but stopped attacking This was one of the best games of the J ear Supersonic Strikers Sinkers versus person winning This is the Strikers first year in the Sen or Girls League as opposed to the many season on and that experience won out Myers This game went by default to the Flyers as the Acton girls team fatted to show Gulden Spurs I Striken The game between Golden Spurs and the Strikers took place in Pincview The final score was 10 in favour of Golden Spurs This was a good game with Golden Spurs field only players but coach Susan Wild knew how to compensate with good team strategy Strikers ployed their best game of the year Usually they leave their open and rely mi heavy kick However this game they covered the and carried the ball Golden Spurs changed goalkeepers at half time and their first half goal keeper scored in the first minute of the second half From that point on the Golden Spurs played a defensive game until lime ran out A good game by both teams marred only by remarks from some spectators which ob viously disturbed players on both teams and the referee At time Strikers and Acton have been from the cup games On Monday the IBth Arsenals will play Flyers at Pine view and Golden Spurs will play against the Georgetown High School The winners of these two games will enter the cup final game Klrkpatrlck doing a very good job in goal Me Meek working very hard and showing some excellent playandJIll Inly re showing real improvement in her play Olympians I Red Barons Both teams played very well in their first game of the finals The Olympians excelled on defense and the Barons were unable to come up with a goal try as they did The Olympians scored late in the second half on a rebound from a corner kick Sonja Halter always a threat to the opposition ployed a strong game on the forward line as did Carolyn Palmer being good on defense The Red Barons put up a good fight right to the end but had trouble getting the ball past Olympian defense anna Kavanaugh had a busy night ingoal andcamcupwith some excellent saves Kelly and Brenda Hyde played well a I halfback The Olympians and Barons always play well against one team beats Last Thursday evening at Cedarvale Georgetown defeat ed In a Peel League soccer game started the season poorly but has improved dramatically of late and came Into town with an unbeaten streak of seven gomes under Ihcir belts On a very wet slippery pitch both teams had difficulty rolling the ball and mistakes were plentiful Play switched from end to end with both goalkeepers coming up with some good saves The stalemate was broken when Cercor Inside forward Patrick broke through the centre and pushed the ball out to Ihc right Georgetown Keith took the ball in his stride and calmly aidefooted It nasi the goalkeeper into the net This score stood up till half time In me second half fought desperately to level the score and for about 15 minutes almost continuous pressure Very determined by the Georgetown goalkeeper 11m Davis snowing tremendous poise and confidence kept the Oakville team off the scoreshect As the end of the game drew oloser both teams tired consld and several chances were missed at both ends At fml Georgetown wa good hit for their 10 victory which could cost Oak vi lie heir chance at the ion II title On Saturday the Cercor LIMESTONE ALL SIZES MB GRAVEL FILL AND TOP SOIL BUD HAINES 3 DURHAM ST 8773302 another and with both teams strong on defense it is often hard to up with a goal Debutante jo The Red Barons looked very good in this game and definite ly controlled oil play Chcralyn Cory and Jane Taylor on de fense came up with some excellent booting and mo nag to keep the ball out of their half Pam Morrison looked good on the forward line and came through with mi mber of good shots on net The way the forward line kept directing the ball at the Dcbu ante goal it was a wonder they never scored more often Debbie came up with the winning goal just before half time The Debutantes at though outplayed never gave up trying Debbie Johnson was outstanding In net during the second half having to put up with numerous shots on net Heidi and Barb Gage also played well for Pine view Susan a very and aggressive player also playcdwcll on forward line By ALEX TOUGH The Argos iwhC Coach reported to have said after the weekend loss that it was attri to defensive mistakes This is usually true of most match results However the offensive team In scoring the winning margin has do something right to put the goals on the scoreboard Anot her contributing factor on the Argos loss according to one main lino scribe was the lack of a correct coll by the during a roustabout by players and coaches This may be so The commentator pro ceeded at great length to a the officials to dissect the situation and apply his interpretation of rulings It is to give answers after the event with the benefit of replays The rcf has to apply his judgement in a split second and basically stick to that decision It should bo re mem be red that a team only plays as well as the apposition allows and do not commit in score or lose points these the province of the players I reffed a playof game last week and a poor game by normal standards Nevertheless the result was fair In the end A surprise to me was the losing coach say I had a good game with only one bad decision he felt The winning coach thought 1 hud had much better matches and not many worse All matter of Interpretation The lack of knowledge or soccer laws by parents was demons rated during the game Per haps this Is an area where we could put the press good use next year Also some attitudes and comments to and about is one major factor In losing particularly youn gcr refs Whilst thinking of next year I d like to return to my though is of last week and expand a little more As ye little or no positive steps have been taken to prospect an Inter town combination of the older house leagues In any to other soccer clubs we have to take into account the feelings of players parents and coaches Certainly the games the few exhibitions played this year were quite successful thought turns to rep I have said that I wanted Georgetown players to play in and for the With our lack of numbers In choice we suffer from a lack of depth Particularly when hit by injury vacation or a visit to Grannies for the day One answer may be to Invite other area players to try out I cannot sec why not Hey our
