Letters to the Editor Mother supports course in parenting education To the editor of The Herald Is it possible that Pro Ministry Education has been unable to grasp the motivation behind Interna Year of Child and the i m pi i cot ions of turning a deaf car to thoie who promote enriching programs for child educational lorn It would likely when one views the decision of Hie nistry not to accept Principal Eric Course to compulsory inclusion a l he secondary lev el and a diluted fragmented approach to the course for trades and In a lime when our society is faced with an increasing dence of juvenile child abuse and and many other social ills relating to the child it is a refreshing breath of air to have an Eric Balktad In Ha I ton His for Including Par Courses course of study in schools could well have put in the vanguard of social liny toward children But instead pro ministry waffles and Hall on board of compromises Surely our board members musi rcilne the of parenting courts especial for children from less than ho mi environments Il could be only chance to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect thai has been firmly in Social Agency rcporis Ilia folly for the board Besides if parenting are left and centres you wind up preaching to Hie con Those who would most from ihis course rarely belong to church or centre However ALL children attend school Tor those children Artisans raised for equip ment and arc asking for an additional While is essentially cor reel it is misleading in that the is not the result of some special fund raising effort but illy represents an appro value the inventory of equipment and supplies rid over a period of about years Thiols Hit result of hard volunteer work on the part of a dedicated group of members put Into such activities as Art in the Park and Christmas sates and the offer ing of numerous courses twice a vcar for which Ihis equipment is provided generous support is by Hills and grants This outside sup port Is greatly relied upon in providing the services to the community which are son for the existence of the Credii Artisans ft should be noted Ihat all equipment acquired by the Artisans is intact public prop in ihat it reverts to Hilts Department the event that our group teases to provide instructional courses and facilities for on going participation in the arts and We think we are doing a good job as demonstrated by Ihe fact that this season we are operating 12 courses or offered with a participation of nearly 100 persons This is an increase of about per over previous wmler and indicates the grow Hi of our activities and the growing public awareness of our work In providing this type of recreational activity in the community through the four years We are very fortunate in having our own premises in Park provided by the Town house our equip ment and in which to carry on j ear round activities Members who have some com potency in any craft can have access la The Cottage at any lo use the appropriate and we would like encourage this aspect of our mandate Appli cation forms for memberships and e nurses arc generally in local craft shops and provide further informal ion on our organization A CVA Treasurer Swimmers need to improve abilities To the editor of Herald In the four years since build the indoor pool the imp rovement In the caliber of swimmers has been fantastic This improvement has shown especially in High School swim team The Rebels won the Ha lions the Peel Ha lions and had seventeen swimmers qualify to swim lost Saturday where they made the finals In three events Most of the high school team received their early trai with the Georgetown Swim Team The swimmers of George town now have to decide when lo form a proper swim club and when to become affiliated with Canadian Amateur Swim mlng Association A S A 1 It is only through span sored meets that our better can have the they need In the next few weeks those Interested In competitive swimming will asked to vote on the establish of a swim club If the vole is in favour the club could be formed in lime for the start of season in September Two areas of conflict exist between the GST and the High School Any swimmer of the high school team must break their affiliation with the George town team This seems to be most unfair to the team which did initial training and unfair to the students divide their loyalty In Hills any swim mer who swims for a A A club has to swim as a senior in High School competition spective of age Halton is Ihe only jurisdiction in Ontario with this regulation Once this would divide the loyalty of the students if CASA club were formed Both these reflections should be eliminated before Scptcmb- not interested in competitive swimming should realise most of the pool staff and lessons instructors are or have been The higher the calibre of the swim team also raises the standard of for beginners Continued progress cannot be made without providing better competition for the swim team and this cannot be done without becoming ted with CASA Those families involved in competitive swimming must be prepared attend swim learn meetings and if the vole is in favour of forming a CASA affiliated club par will have to lake an active pari Its organization Enough people must pate so that the work load does fall on a few dedicated people to make the club a success It swimming In Georgetown does not continue to moke progress it will decline iTedlElson Georgetown responsibilities of parenthood from a I ire nulrition handling etc The benefits to of a
