representations from the public and the broadcasting Industry on the need for a multilingual television station to servo the Metropolitan Toronto region On December the Commission issued a Public Announcement entitled Multlllnqual Television Broadcasting outlining the new policy for multilingual television At the same time the Com mission Issued a licence to Multilingual Television Toronto Limited subject to the terms outlined In that announcement A Public Hearing was held in Hull Quebec on and June to consider an plication to amend this licence to change the channel frequency Increase the effective radiated power and to change the location of the transmitter to the Tower Toronto The attached Decision CRTC approves this application In the Public Announcement of December 197B the Commission did not address the particulars of the carriage of the multilingual television station on cable television systems but awaited an Indication from the licensee that the station programming was operational The Commission reiterates the view expressed in previous public announcements that as a Canadian station it has the same cable carriage priority status as other Toronto television stations In accordance with Section of the Cable Television Regulations However cable television licensees can apply to the Commission for exemption rem this carriage requirement Such applications will bo considered on a case by case basis Interested parties in this matter are reminded of the Commissions the original decision on the provision by Television Toronto Limited Of a service with
