April EX tin Page ON THE HOirtEFROFNT Come on warmth sunshine flowers By SUSAN DE Herald Is it or isn If Presumably only the Canadian groundhog knows for sure Frst ease our w tired bones then our spirits get dashed as a coldspellscttlesoverusoncesgaln The bints awaken us to a cheerful chirping aria one morning then fall a not silence the next We wildly veer between newspaper depleting curvaceous young things catching the early spring sunshine on park benches to those of massive floods caused by heavy ns from a lowering gloomy April sky Come on spring make up your mind It is not that I am looking far additional chores but do we wash our windows yet or not Can we clean off washing I so our sheets can finally flap in the breeze for another season Can I safely purchase my vegetable seeds with a better than average hope of eventually getting them into around Winter begone I am tired of bulky coats that are overdue for to the drycleaners I cannot wa to throw out the children holey reeking boots and fold away a of milts scarves and hats I quite am tired of vacuuming up bagful Is of salt crystals and gravel from the entrance hall NO SNOWF LAKES Alright so I am impatient I long to see the roses sprout not watch another 1 drift to earth I want to throw out breadcrumbs for the ordinary birds and watch the massive sunflowers lining the garden fence act as a magnet for the raucous Blue Jays am even willing to accept and creeping Charlie at this point just so hat may anticipate a hour on the patio after work Con any song be sweeter than that of a wings beating the July or thesmell of new mown grass hovering over a Saturday afternoon Can anything beat the tantalizingsiuleofsleakorlambona Sunday and the splash of water from a neighbouring pool the satisfying when a tennis ball is met by a well balanced racquet the flapp of wind filled sails from the small boats dotting the blue water of a lake No Shakespearean hero ever wooed a heroine as I court the coming of summer I was obviously genetically programmed tol on the French Italian Riviera or falling that Texas Nevada or California BLUE SKIES In fact while I am loathe to divulge my harmless little fantasies only today bleak grey and coldly windy I took a telephone call in the from San Diego The entire time this totally strange man talked business I could only envision brilliant blue skies dotted with plaintively crying seagulls and tiny waves lapping the shores caressing tiny scuttling crabs A sensuous pervading aroma of seaweed clams and surrounded my prosaic desk and I hod to make a total agonizing effort not to Interrupt the Blow in my ear and III be on the next flight down Comeonwarmth sunshine flowers yellow beans and zucchini before I die from longing let go for it
