Interviews are going on now tor students hoping to get a summer job on a farm through the Ontario ministry of agriculture and foods Junior agriculturalist program Sandra Harrison representative from Ancaater Is Interviewing to Halton teenagers looking for a place In the program Ms Harrison says she will only be hiring 35 students aged IS and to work In Halton Peel Wellington Brant and Niagara north and south This a reduction from last year when the program took in three times that number Although she isnt sure she suspects budget restrictions of forcing the cut back Only 190 student will be hired throughout Ontario this year The students come from nonfarm backgrounds she says Many of them are unsure of the career destina tion at this age but they want to work on a farm and the program lets them do this It Is also useful to students who need practical farm In order to attend Ontario Veterinary College In the future and to students wanting to enter Ontario Agricultural College The students work from June to Aug 1518 The department pays fa a day while the host farmer pays the other to plus providing room and board for the student Ms Harrison says she could use more host farmers
