Letters to the Editor SECTION A THE HERALD May Residents are grateful for support of park Students commended for their brief to NEC NOTE Following are copies of letter to the town submitted to The Herald for publication Dear Mr McDonald On behalf of the residents within Ihe Mary Street Park district we would like to express our sincere hanks for your personal contribution to the rejection of the recommendation within the Master Parks Plan related to the sale of the Mary Street Park You will recall that we have received a letter from Tom recreation and parks which confirms the significant contribution of the Park to the community Mr states that Mary Street property in question is vital and necessary as a play area for that neighborhood this Department has no Intention of recommending the selling of the Mary Street Park proper nor using the property for anything other than the Intend purpose as I It that being a neighborhood children play area It is our belief that members of council will accept the recommendation of their recreation director since It accurately represents the best interests of the area as voiced by the residents named within the brief submitted to the deputy clerk last Thursday morning We look forward to a council resolution which will formally reject the recommendation related to the sale of the Mary Street Park and which will encourage the recreation department to continue its efforts to maintain and develop it in a way that Is consistent with the suggestions In our brief impact upon a community It is to be hoped that future Plans related to other issues will include a clearly defined mechanism for soliciting public feedback For example newspaper advertisements would be one way of Informing the general public of he procedure for supporting or objecting to particular proposals We ore grateful for suggestions offered by both you and the ma which have helped to insure responsible community reaction during the past week Please express our gratitude he mayor and members of council for their continued support Master parks plan needs review residents Dear Sir As parents of three young children we were shocked and upset when we read he Mary Street Pork should be sold because it is too small to be useful Our children play there daily as do many other neighbor hood children of all ages toddlers to teenagers No our park is not large enough for a baseball diamond football field or other organized sports All we want is a place for unorganized unstructured spontaneous activities and our park Tills these requirements perfectly The Master Plan for Parks Open Space and Recreation states the goal for local park land is To help fulfill the needs and interests of local residents for places for leisure activities and help lo beautify and shape the local area This describes our pork exactly This parkland was first established with the 25year old Mary Henry Cleaveholm Streets subdivision and was moved when Marywood Meadows was built We fall to understand how a subdivision the size of Marywood Meadows could be built without the developer having to provide any neighborhood parkland If the town must sell neighborhood parkland in order to help finance the Master then perhaps the Plan should be reviewed Yours truly Stuart and Janice Walker Mary Street Parkette enjoyed by young and old Thti cartoon by The Heralds Greg Landry featured May lamed out to be prophetic Two weeks after its appearance Mary parents spoke op for their children regarding the proposed isle of their neighborhood parkette Council will the matter early month Dear Mr As residents of Drive we were really shocked to hear that ting firm of Associates recommended selling Mary Street greenbelt area or Our home baclcs onto
