Dimes campaign aids hairdresser the Herald Special Janet Dickenson of Hamilton suffered from acute pains In her legs until she received aid from the Ontario March of Dimes Janet was born with an abnormality which caused her kneecaps to out of place unexpectedly At age 17 and 19 Janet underwent corrective surgery on her knees but she says the operations were only success ful until about eight months ago Now she requires braces on legs to support the knee joint and to keep her legs straight thus significantly re ducing the pain she used to live with day after day The braces supplied by the Ontario March of Dimes have given freedom and back to Janet Janet was a hairdresser for 15 years and operated her own beauty salon for six years She sold her salon last year Janet experiences some days with the pain in her legs but with ber braces she Is able to enjoy greater freedom and get on with enjoying life Janet Is very artistic and baa been actively pursuing her talents through ceramics and sketching Each year the Ontario March of Dimes helps many physically disabled adults in this province to enjoy life Its services include providing per sons support items such as Janets braces wheelchairs walkers and canes for greater Independence In addition the organisation offers summer and winter camping holidays for disabled people many of whom live in institutions and chronic care
