Ci of the Year for 1980 VI Haines told family friends and supporters at her banquet Friday There are so many people today looking for happiness and I like to remind them that happiness is be found in helping others Mrs Ha nes said In her accept once speech She said she was honored to accept the awards which included plaques from the town of Hills the province and the federal government and the plaque from the Lions Club sponsors of the event Mrs Haines expressed her appreciation to George and Marlcnc Webster who nominated her for the honor She also thanked the wonderful people in the many organizations in which she has been involved for their help friendship and cooperation over the years Special thanks went to her husband Tom and her family who supported her efforts and worked together with her Lion Stan Callaghan who chaired the selection committee for the award was the master of for the evening He introduced the head table guests and recited Mrs Haines list of accomplish In the SO years since she married Tom and moved from house to Glen Williams Mrs Haines Is a member of the fourth generation of the Scott family In this area She was born In and moved to Glen Williams after her marriage It was shortly after she married that Mrs Haines started out on a trail of community work that now has so many lanes a super highway couldn keep Mr Callaghan said At the same time Mrs Haines maintained a happy devoted family he added During the Second World War Mrs Haines worked with the Red Cross sending packages overseas and rais ing funds She still works with the Red Cross Disaster Unit For years Mrs Haines has been a member of St Guild She has sung in the choir for years and been a member of the parish council She was chairman of the church a rebuilding fund and has taught Sunday School there for almost as long as she has attended St Albans Mrs Haines is currently serving a twoyear term as president of the Georgetown and District Memorial Hospital Auxiliary an organization which she has belonged to for several years Mrs Haines has also been a member of the Ladles Support group of the Scouts and Guides and a and fund raiser for the Georgetown Girls Pipe Band She Is a member of the Georgetown Choral Society and a past president of the group For 11 yean Mrs Haines was a member of the Rotary Amies In addition to her service club activities she was also active with ports groups serving a term as president of the Halton Ladles Softball League and supporting the teams her husband managed In hockey and lacrosse She Is a member of he Glen Williams
