Headquarters want to be cooped up during the summer holl days And who can blame him Many people ycam for the great outdoors once those days of summer roll around but most fortunate enough to have a Job working outside Mike has always found summer jobs outside Over the past few years ties mowed lawns and worked on a farm near Terra Cotla Since last fall he worked with the Georgetown BIA cleaning up Main Street Merchants and customers alike Mike behind his cart pushing a broom and picking up litter off the streets and sidewalks He also keeps the public parking lota clean and tackles weeds wherever they crop up In addition to his cleaning duties Mike also spent an entire day helping the down town merchants launch the Pioneer Day festivities It was a day chock full of activities and Mike was at the centre of It all helping to keep things running smooth He spent ten hours that day sell up speakers lor the band selling buttons and mugs supplylngwoodforthe steam engine end keeping everything clean lie was also involved in preparations beforehand and saw to It that the merchants got what arli facts they needed from the Ha I ton Region Museum in Milton for a Pioneer Day displays Town council tivo on the John McDonald said Mike done fantastic job downtown and he hears the same from all the merchants on a regular basis Experience at basically hopes to provide students with Jobs over the summer holidays which they can enjoy doing For Georgetown business district Experience has been a boon The downtown area Is kept clean and the merchants have a friend they can turn to for help Thecommunl ty has benefitted with a beautiful downtown area and Mike got the added bonus of working where he enjoys It he most outdoors Mike Williams Is hard at work this summer keeping downtown Georgetown clean Mike has said he never want to work indoors during months and therefore find this Job He likes meeting people and being able to work outdoors in the sun and fresh air Mike Is one of to Ontario students hired as part Experience program this summer keeping young people busy Herald As the summer progresses so are the Credit Valley Conservation Authority a Experience students progressing Since June crews have been feverishly completing assignments There are two crews of four laborers headed by Doug Cute bean and Van Der Schueren and one ot five led by Gary Ogden The crews first assign ment was at Silver Creek Education Centre where they whitewashed fences and buildings A major cleanup was also dope in lion for the official opening The crews have spent much of their time In the Credit Valley Conservation Authority nursery working on small trees which will be used for future erosion control planting The crews have demolish ed a small cabin in the Silver Creek area and have another on their schedule Doug McCutcheon crew was sent to do a site cleanup in a residential area on the north side of Lakeshore Boulevard in Mlsslssauga All the foremen have obtained their Ministry of Natural Resources driving certificates after being tested by General Superin tendent Al Leach A group of students have taken a St John Ambulance course to ensure job safety Of the students three Juniors under IB are work Log at Terra Cotta for the summer They are charged with general maintenance of the censer area There are three technical assistants who are working with Authority staff collecting Information for ecological reports assisting the Information Officer in brochure design and working with Conservation Planners The Experience students completed an Initial Education day June 19 The students participated in extensive tours of Toronto Coca Cola plant and Cambridge a Hostesa plant Then on July they toured the Armstrong gravel pit in Caledon and the Thermal generating station Experience SI Regional Coordinator Dave will be giving the students a presentation on the Ministry Friday after a tour of the College arboretum Future Job proposals arc erosion control planting cabin demolition and clean up park maintenance haul ing splitting and piling fire wood and nursery work Student working for the Credit Valley Conservation Authority are currently planting
