SECTION B THE HERALD Wtdncidiy May North Halton golf tips The first tip of the season Womens Rural Soccer League Womens soccer gain two new teams Here we are ready for another golfing season Or are Most of us during winter lake tor granted that we thrown few rocka on the curling Ice then come out and expect to play something called golf Golf Is a game of mental and physical dexterity of which every individual possesses but has little knowledge on how to harness all the potential One sure way is to remain both mentally and physically active The other li to see the local golf professional and get a grip on the basics One of the most Important of basics Is In the setup position One area I do not teach which may sound absurd is the golf swing I believe the swing Is a product of the address position In other words the swing Is only as good as your thoseason thcnls How to aim yourself to hit tho ball to the target area STEP Stand behind the ball using the ball as an intermediate point to help establish your target line STEP not your feet not your shoulders but the club STEP With the dub still silting on the ground aiming at the target take your stance with the body aiming on a Hi which is parallel to the intended target line line of flight Remember the ball can only travel where the club travels and the club can only travel to the target if it Is aimed at the target Next week we wilt answer any queries that people have on a particular problem In their golf game Terry the Assistant Golf Pro at North Golf and Country Club He welcomes your which will be answered In this column Phone The Herald Sport aline it and we will relay the message to Terry Herald Special The soccer season starts on May 17 with the two Georgetown women soccer club teams playing each other at School Kickoff time Is Club coach Courtney Warner and team coach Ed Toonc have both worked very hard to prepare the two teams for this season Georgetown Shoppers Drug Mart is sponsoring one of the teams this year and we extend a big thank you to A I for this favor which Is greatly appreciated This year the Women s Rural Soccer League has teams two more than lost year Milton has expanded by one team and the George town Christian Reform Church Women are fielding a team coached by Haddy This raises the Georgetown cortributlon to three teams The league this year as In the past two years will consist of Acton Bolton Milton and George- Representations to join our league this year were made by three other clubs Brums United Clarkaon and Oak This was discussed at the league first meeting of the year in Mlllon Regretfully this had to be turned down Expansion had already occurred within the league and the addition of three new clubs would have meant additional travel However the league did not wish to Ignore these clubs and Doug Johnson of Soccer Club tuts offered to organize exhibition games between league teams and these three clubs It may be possible for each of these three clubs to have one game a week either with themselves or with the league teams This Is one of those areas where he Peel Region should bo able to drum up two or three add llonol teams and form a separate league that would Include Drams United and Oak lie The Georgetown Women Soccer Club executive for 1982 Is D Rafferty dent Joyce Bydevoate Vice President Janet Burns Secretary and Booth Is Registrar Treasurer Courtney Warner was appointed club coach Ed is team coach Jim White who has coach ed for he post two years is taking a break this year but Is available to the club for refcrecing and stand In coach when the occasion demands Marie Burman will head the clubs Social Committee and with Rose Penman of the Milton Women Soccer Club- will organise a yearend tournament For more information call Inclosing the writer notes that the field goal mouth high school end is a sea of thick hackedup It seems that one or more games were played on that field on day and the fill that had been applied to that goat mouth by the town was badly hacked to play It Is regrettable that the coaches managers and referees Involved failed to observe that the field was not yet ready for play Soccer fields are scarce in George town Soccer managers coaches and referees have a responsibility to protect the few we have even If that means colling a game to protect the field CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT Phone Soccer Down to business Golfers in the money After last week rest from writing I am refreshed than without a rest And say some different from any other time However down to business Youth soccer a their dance on May a Friday at Holy Cross Auditorium from until lam with music by Melville a and buffet and prizes and lots of stuff Tickets may be had from me June Wilde Julia Manning Pat Johnston and Bryan Turner From past experience you are well advised to obtain your tickets fast Opening day for house league teams will take place Saturday May over the holiday weekend as usual with one game from each age group except minis Both fields at Cedarvate will be in use all day from Sam until approximately REP TEAMS Most of our rep teams had an exhibition day against Brampton this past weekend and we are grateful for the local rivals Tor providing a start to the season Inter County teams also nave been playing exhibitions In preparation for their start Georgetown Falcon reserves open the season at Cedorvale on Monday May 19 at a pm The Meteor A and teams battle it out on the Wednesday at Cedorvale at 8 The Mariners are away at Milton and Eagles are In Acton Sm edema tells me the AJax Eagles are attempting to put a third team together and that his ladles have been bugging him to start a team for them Soccer continues to boom in this area In spite of a lower youth registration Recently we have had field problems with game time and were forcibly removed from Moore Emmcreon Park Nevertheless others continued to use the field without any action coming from the town Similarly with the High School which Is not supposed to be used at the moment Itseemsthatlhereisone law for one group and one law for us and that is definitely not right MERGER ATTEMPTS I read with interest the possibility of Acton Sabres hockey folks We spoke or the same Idea In rep soccer earlier and broached the prospect with tho youth soccer club In Acton However Acton youth have not been blessed with the regularity of continuing executives and the current Acton executive had had other matters nearer home to deal with at present The idea Is not lost There are advantages in Joining The possibility of stronger more competitive teams In each age group less strain on field resources combination at the best of coaching and administration The topic remains on the agenda of things to be done We approached Acton with the proposal as did the to the Sabres USER PAY The major part of this year preparations has been the user pay Issue and the original horrendous proposed Increases in user fees The delays have played havoc with registrations and rep try outs as a result and we were a few weeks behind schedule although catching up fast As stated house league opening day la May and commence Tuesday May whlchis also the opening leagueday of competition We Hill ail be ready by then The Inter County league Is different this year A new constitution and by lows were brought into force and projected teams in two divisions Eight of the teams are Eagles Meteors two teams Mariners Brackens Varlan and Falcon reserves The Falcon first team are again competing in the Toronto and District 2nd Division and this year
