crossed the plate eight times In the second game the Hustlers came up against the vllle Hawks The Hustlers were in rare form and could do nothing wrong while the Hawks never got off the ground It has been a long winter but lei go guys Roger Brown went the distance on the mound for the Hustlers with six to his credit and going for at the bats with a single double and two triples Carl Stretch Reed at second base went 3 for 4 at the plate Tor the Hawks Marty at third base and Pete Garden shortstop were In on 13 of the outs they needed Still the Hustlers took their first win 12 The game saw last column comes The column Is one of news received from clubs and groups and comments from my own experiences and opinions derived from observations and discussions with others The news aspects are factual The comments and opinions expressed are mine and not the policy of any group nor of Ihis publication They are based from the facts and arc not simply thought up from my imagination and are open to challenge It so happens lhat this year I have received many favorable comments on my writings Many more than the opposite I can tell you The feedback in support has been tremendous Particularly In respect of absenteeism Irresponsibility facilities and user fee charges Feedback good or bad at least let me know that the stuff Is being read Weeks when I am not In print are brought to my attention very quickly Both from supporters and nonsupporters alike FIELD MISUSE Misuse of fields was notified by me to the town following Ihe order not to use he fields from the authorities Two senior Inter County teams were amongst those reported The team officials were advised not to repeat the offence by me and have not done so An unknown group used a field and little could be done about that lot A known group used another field and continued to use the facility In spite of being reported by me by telephone and In print last week Those arc ihe fact I see from a report In the local press that vandalism of outdoor facilities appears to be on the increase and Is costing the community to the tune of In one month Repairs and replacements are costly and the labor to offset vandals takes staff away from much needed normal work and harms preparations of facilities The damage Is usually caused In my opinion when not being used by organised groups According to an Ontario government report vandalism can be attributed to those who are not members of a coram unity group Efforts should be maintained and Increased to encourage young and older to become members of community groups At the same time off use patrols are a necessity and something I spent a great deal of time and energy on last year In soccer we are faced with a shortage of fields andean only schedule games and not practice sessions The youth club attempts to arrange at least one game per week which is sometimes not enough and hopefully the team coach finds a bit of spare ground for practice It Is no easy task trying to teach when it Is not possible to leach on the ground where the games are o be played At senior level sometimes one game a week Is too much humorous comment Actually should all the soccer fields around town be serviceable there would be little problem In dealing with game and practice lime ANCIENTS This evening the new Ancient Mariners take theficldagalnstlhc new ICCM at in Ihe first
