Interview It was understood tbst portions of Hie inter view would be edited Tor a feature on Minor Hockey Week The Herald What have you found have been same of the biggest chill cages for you this year In starting out your portfolio as Director of Hockey John I the biggest challenge has been Ihe fact that it the first year under a merged group and being able lo synchronize house league and rep hockey under one Jurisdic tion Personally the biggest challenge is the that I had very little to do house league up until this year now all of a sudden its thrown all under one blanket My proposal for next year is and It looks like it a going to go through In Ihe new tlon there will be more than one director of hockey Thay would be split up The Herald Do you find that working with those sheer numbers is scary at John Chantler Only In the fact that here arc those numbers But the people he delegation of the work Is a lot easier With right people and right now we have right people in the organization We have tome- teams we have coaches and managers and Dial all breaks into two senior commissioners and throe convenors So the sheer numbers you dont really notice because of ihe people working under you can handle most of the day to day work The Herald Are here any areas that have Improved since the new lion wn formed Have things gone as expected such as things thought would be Improved because of mallonT John Chantler The most improve ment has come in communication from Rep hockey to Tier 2 hockey to House League In iho movement of players and addressing the problems between coaches of the same ago group The second major Improvement is ihe foci thai we now have a second level rep learn that has as equal opportunity as the first team as far as practices are cot and offerings of clinics and that sort of thing JOHN Now there will bo a free move ment only of players but of coaches as well House League realty is the basis of hockey Your rep teams are only as good as your house league is Now wc are being able to develop In Rep hockey Tier hockey and House League hockey You can develop through logical progress i Your rep teams are only as good as your house league is on through the manuals and a programmed development committee you would be able to advise and regulate practices and methods of playing players during a game thai sort of thing So are now one complete unit We found I guess that wc had to coach the boys in our own manner we had to recoach when we drew them from the Support Group or from the House League at one time Now we will know that those boys have been coached And bringing Tier makes It a little more competitive for tho top rep teams because you re getting in tho past the top rep teams had so much ice that It was very hard to break that lineup Now we re going to have to work them a little harder lo stay on the team The Herald Do you think hockey In Georgetown Is rested on a more serious level It should be or It Continued
