her first qualifying meet in Milton this weekend The grade student at Georgetown District High School was practising Friday morning to make sure she had her routines all set Last year was Carmen s first year in competitive gymnastics wilh the Jills She Joined the Jills as a gymnast when she was nineyearsold after starting out in the sport two years earlier After leaving for other pursuits such as basketball when she was in her early teens Carmen decided to rejoin the Jills Carmen is involved with the Georgetown District High School gymnastics learn which now allows club to compete This means that she will to compete in a provincial meet but that she compete against fellow club gymnasts at the high school level Carmen is keeping a busy schedule by working out with the Jills four toes per week and averaging about two practices with the high school team In addition she is also involved with coaching at the recreational gymnastics level One of the Skills she has learned as a coach is how to discipline the youngsters she says Carmen likes gymnastics because it keeps her in shape She also enjoys the challenge of compel against other gymnasts Sometimes she t like the long hours of ing but she says it gives her some thing to do Carmen would like to keep on coaching and eventually gain some coaching certificates which she can attain until she turns the day with a sixth all round rating after collecting a fourth on vault fourth on beam and fifth on bar Her teammate in the Junior Division was Carmen Lamothe who just missed ribbon on the beam but overall she did exceptionally well for her firbt time competing Faith Richardson led the Argo with an placing on the vault and a on the floor routine Julie Ross was on the beam and Sandra Weeks Just missed out In her spirited
