calls it quits Herald correspondent Georgetown Cricket Club resumed their sche duled league games lost week after several ralnedout contests and waterlogged playing fields during the previous three the Georgetown District High School wrestling team after a decade of devoted service I made the decision not to coach wrestling next year late In March with a lot of regrets says McKay His departure Is not It may only it a year but Its a rest he says he needs because hes tired I have to get my nose of there and get my head clear I feel totally burnt and I dont feel Im doing the Job I could he doing and should be doing he says I thought a year off might be good Maybe year after Ill be feeling a bit better Replacements for McKay and coach Ray Smith who wont be returning as assistant coach so that he can devote more time to f ami ly res pons bill lies have not been found yet The future of the learn is In question Im not sure the status of the wrestling team will be or whether well even have says McKay Whal were trying to do right now Is get someone else from the staff lo take it Its a different kind of program You cant Just edge of the sport because of the body contact and the high risk of Injury Ive contacted some of my ex wrestlers lo see if they would be interested in helping but we have to have a staff BOBMcKAY advisor If we dont have staff advisor then we cant run the program which Is unfortunate McKay says the team has good potential for next year after Ihis years successful campaign I know darn well that wed be significantly stronger next year There no doubt in my mind the talent Is there We have so many good wrestlers Were losing one or possibly two people I doubt very much that Bob Swcezle will be back In school and Mark Roberts will be gradual this year So out of a learn of 27 kids thats 23 left McKay at one time a nationally rated wrestling official will not give up alt of his Involvement In the sport Im still going to keep Into wrestling Ill be Involved a little bit In the officiating aspect of It Im going to try to get my papers back he says He may also take on coaching boys volley ball a program not run this year because there was no staff member available to coach a Im going to try to move into a little Junior boys volleyball just as a total change of pace and maybe year after 1 gel back wrestling 1 hate like heck lo leave it he added I really do Whether we had a winning team or a losing earn we certainly had what thought was a good cam for the talent we hod The captain of another powerful team who stated earlier this year that he may not be returning to the helm ncxl season is now stlc about the possibility of continuing his eight years of coaching Swim learn coach Tom Adams Is no longer talk ing about resigning Right now It looks like I probably will be coach ing next year he says Im doing some Masters courses and a couple of other things that are starting to fall Into place and If they do It looks like I should be able to coach The team will be miss some strong swimm ers next year including Cheryl Thompson Mai MacLeod TOM ADAMS Carlisle Lcn Fisher and Liz Ramsay who will all be graduating this year We are losing a numb er of good swimmers and well miss them all but I hope that wo can replace Ihcm says Adams We always like to think that were able to keep things going Well Just lake the juniors that will be mov ing up and some seniors will be second year seni ors next year move them up the front lino and hope that with the training they do next year they will lit right in Adams is not making any plans for Ihe cam until he knows who and whal he has to work with I usually formulate goals In the back of my head and then I see what kind or turnout we have I never try figure out whos coming back Who ever is teams performance next season Itll be stronger because were getting so many new kids from public schools Amy Powers Greg MacKenxic and Darren Boudroau will be strong returning as midgets next year she
