first place Herald Special The Georgetown mist Club won first place for their entry of the chicken club program in the health and welfare class of club community service projects President John received the award al the annual Optimist Internalional Convention held in New Orleans two weeks ago Last year we won Ihe same award with our entry of the drug aware ness program This more than any thing proves the Impact these projects have When you can beat almost BOO clubs two years running with basically same program you know you have something great Our congratulations to the drug awareness committee as a whole CONVENTION Besides President John and his wife Mary there were six other members who made the trip to New Orleans to attend the four day convention where Optimist met They were Optimists Norm Guthrie Ray Mar tin John Homing Axford Stan Nolan Bruce To It en and ladies While President John was away accepting awards for our drug prog ram a lot of members were assisting Optimist Mayor Pete Pomeroy raise money so that this program may continue The first all out effort of the Mayor Golf must be classed a success While we cannot tell the net results until all the sand has settled In the bunkers it does look as If we raised about to The club is indebted to a lot of people who are not members of our club which proves that if you are doing something worthwhile for the com m unity people will sup port you and the cause While it Is Impossible lo name everyone for we are sure lo miss someone we must pay special tribute to Mr Finn Paul strap Mr Dave and Mr Ken Bellamy They along with Mayor Pomeroy did a lot of the early planning for this event and put In many hours and in fact they are already working on the next one Our hat Is off lo these gents A big thank you to note where a group of individuals have start a Wish for kids prog WISH PROGRAM We this is a great and worthy cause The club has donated the use of Ihe hall to this group as wellasfSOO While we are on the subject of donating money the board donated to assist families who are on welfare to send the children to day camp run by our parks and recreation depart merit The recreation depart does not have the funds donate staff time People such as single parents and unemployed cannot afford the cost to send their kids to these day camps We all realize that where a family has prob lems there Is extra
