Wilde takes bantam team Colin Wilde has taken over the reins of the Lepage youth house league bantam boys team Colin has been Involved in local soccer for many years and was a member of the youth executive for consecutive years He has served his term as president and at other positions Including registrar have say he Is quite knowledgeable and innovative in his approach to the game Colin is also a qualified referee and experienced coach and a former player to boot Only recurring back trouble prevents him from continuing to play Colin has given many years of dedicated service to youth soccer and this year had decided on a complete break Colin s children Susan Linda Ian and Michael have played house league and rep at youth and senior levels and still do I may add Linda is also a qualified good referee After the rigours and problems or the S3 bantam team In recent weeks gave the executive headaches Colin was approached to take the lads I am certain that handling of the team will have a decided effect for the belter The squad took the field last week and the Improvement was there for all to see in a rearranged last minute game due to schedule mix ups Earlier the Friends of Youth bantams defeated a physically weaker Acton Optimists by ACton had one of two good players nevertheless and kept on trying to the end achieving the late score as a reword The Georgetown squad looked good and played well throughout Coached by Peter the lads took on the A E LcPage team Immediately afterwards The major pec wee Meteors relurn from a week of hectic soccer with a win and a tie in the Peel Hal on league and a loss in exhibition play First a tie with champions and torrent leaders from Caiedon ll at Cedarvale a game expected to be a visiting win The team played well and often looked the better team on the field A visit to Erin Mills saw Jimmy Manning moved from defence to attack and It paid off with he only two goals of the game The ledsnrenowlnfourth place with an chance of taking the champion ship The loss came to first division Croatia at the annual picnic where the lads had a good time In spite of the result Soccer groups deserve a pat on the back for calling off the games on the heavy rain day of the previous week Telephone calls to the town did not bring too strong a response in taking so the group look It A local referee made an early Inspection of the grounds and immediately declared the grounds unplayable Most coaches were advised In time to prevent their charges from turning up at their games The this season Last year the lads sustained a heavy defeat seasons improvement showed up in the visit with a victory The team has been short of key players of late and nothing irritates coach George Baltics more than feeble excuses Soccer is a passion with George He feels It should be with others I agree However the lads have good year It could have been better I believe there arc a few games to go and the team could come close to the top if the turnout Is there The Senior Falcons came off an impressive tie with Oakvllle away only to crash at Chlnguacousy Saturday they came from behind against Barbados and Just failed to lie the result being in favour of the home team The Falcons stand fourth from the bottom of their division at the moment Their season goes on until early October The reserve team were short of spirit through part of the game against Annourdale on a hot Sunday afternoon and lost The reserves are a young side with few veterans to lead the way although Dave Patterson and Colin Hicks tried to show the way The lads tended to try to run with the ball instead of making the ball do the work Lots of promise though Youth recreational and senior soccer are now into the playoffs The Inter County second division commence this evening Ajox visit Milton Varion go to Milton also and AJax host Acton B all In the first of two legs to decide who goes to the next round First division wind up league play this week and local venues are not yet settled on Sunday evening Although Butcher look like they will take the first place in the First they can be caught by Meteor White and Mariners That makes this evening game between the two especially interesting Should Butcher take one point from their four pointer in Acton its game over and championship won Guelph are second division champs and ir Butcher also win that will be two new teams in their divisions taking the top place Theplayoffs may be different according to all the others SECTION HIE HERALD Wednesday August Page Race for the top SloPitch results HIDING OUT With
