IC league has another decision The Inter County League are faced with having to decide another unfulfilled game This time Rangers A failed to show a sufficient number players for their match wilh Meteor Blue last Wednesday were a known factor in Ihcir game against Varian In Ihe mean lime only the Mariners5l winoverVilla is known Dependent upon the executive decisions with games this evening fixture at Cedar vale at against Rangers may well decide the 2nd division championship Varian hopes to keep their flag flying home game at at when facing Villa Ajax entertain gaining the first place should they pull off a revenge win over their hosts 1st Division play In the first division Blue host Butcher whilst White visit Villa A facing Rangers A Butcher have already won the championship Finals here The youth midOntario finals are again being hosted by Georgetown The schedule dates arc and September The house league finals will be held a couple of weeks earlier InexEverton game Some or so turned out for the clash at Varsity with he result ending in a tie The lock of publicity in announcing dales and the actual visit in the first place no doubt affected Ihe size of the crowd Also perhaps is a general lack of interest in as a viable concern The complete lack of a true pro league is not doing us any favours and now can be seen the value of ihe whilst it lasted Inex went on Ihe defeat the National team and left the World Cup potentials bewildered at times Keep August open on your calendar That is the day of the CanodaCosta Rica Cup qualifying game and the most Important day for Canadian soccer date A win will set up the team for the next game in St Johns in September with Honduras One thing over the past couple of years or so the Canadians have shown that they can live with some of the best teams In the world Good results with Italy Scotland and Brazil have not gone unnoticed elsewhere Uniform grumbling There has been the odd grumbling about the youth In my opinion this Is the area of greatest difficulty In order to have the kit anywhere in reasonable time it has to be ordered before registration and therefore an educated It is very easy to be out by a hundred or more Sixes are anybody s guess To those who say Ihe position of equipment commissioner Is easy should volunteer to attempt to do better I know that has had- problems providing delivery in lime why I do not know I do know that everything was ordered in time and at that point we are at the mercy of the supplier who la the same as last year when there were very few problems Hooliganism Having read about the Chinese at home against the country s defeat by little Hong Kong when 127 were arrested after the match I wondered how the problem would be dealt with forlhe future This weekend I read that the Chinese have instituted a points system for itcms of good behavior by the home crowds At the same tune they have set up crowd behavior seminars and counsellors teach the fans bow to correct their bad behaving friends Down the centuries the Chinese are noted for their manners and it may well be that this method unusual method of solving the problem will work The level of in Scotland was reduced several years ago by the closing drinking establish ments In the near vicinity of stadiums The Scots have not yet solved the problem of religious bigotry a spark plug of problems In the southern part of Britain England they are introducing Identity cards for fans which will be produced upon entry into a ground Video cameras are to be Introduced The resultant films will show the thugs and vandals As well as being arrested and Jailed for their efforts the cards will be withdrawn and so prevent the entry of the baddies to future games I hope works The numbers of supporters has drastically dropped In the past ten years except at Man and Liverpool in England The good supporters have stopped going and the fans left are of the violent kind The clubs would be left with them as their only source of income if the situation had been allowed to drift along Apparently the mobs are not from Ihe boondocks or unemployed ranks as believed for some time Many of the mob are socalled well respected employed and upright citizens Be it Argos Blue Jays and whatever soccer team we may have In the future or any other sport may it never happen here Tilt- HERALD Wednesday August I age Memories of 1984 Summer Olympics Milestone clear in Grahams mind By DAN RALPH Herald lor It has been a year since the start of the ism Olympic Games but even now Hugh Graham a special feeling for a particular he achieved there The 36yearold Lime- house native scored a perfect second round in Ihe team Jumping comp etition after recording 16 fault points in his first one round was the only one recorded by any member of the Can equestrian team Graham has the video tape and after a year since the competition he said he experiences a special feeling after watching his effort I still get shivers just listening it Graham Graham also Joined an elite group In the indiv idual competition He was only one of four riders to clear a huge barrier in the second round The barrier was five feet three Inches high In the front while being five foot seven inches high in back As well it was seven feet It was one of the b Jumps I had he said However Graham was unable to bring home a medal from the Los An lltir II GRAHAM games Canada fin fourth In the team competition but was only one full point away from winning the silver In the Individual petition his fault points wasn l quite good enough to finish in Ihe top three Graham had Ihe viable task of being the first rider on the course in the Individual rounds This it a disadvantage to the rider for hi docs not have the opportunity of being able to watch the others handle the course Also the initial docs not have the luxury of being able lo where the other riders arc jumping from lo gain the perspective of Ideal soot It was disappointing getting shut out of the medals but getting the clear round for Canada In the team com petition was exciting Graham said Thi dames were Gra ham first Prior Gra ham had a member of the silver medal Can earn that took part in the 1083 Pan Am Games In Caracas The Olympics were a different feeling ham said Normally when you go to an Inter national competition there are Just riders there But in LA all the Canadian athletes stay and you could look out your window and see the swimming going on It was just a whole differ aspect In almost any other sport being 36 would mean another trip to an Olympic competition would be unlikely How ever such t nccess the case in the equestrian field Fortunately I m In a sport where not finished at an early age Graham said Our team captain Ihe Olympics Jim Elder was and the J9S4 Games were his seventh Hopefully I got a few more Games In me still The Olympics arc In the plans and we re Ililkresl Farms where Graham works develop ing some young horses hat
