fewer goals against and several of good hockey Glenn Mulder had a threepoint night against Milton last Monday scoring two and assisting on one by Matthew Remedies David Gardner and Doug Stamp also registered assists Georgetown was down but still in the game with more than minutes left Unfortunately MUton netted two more and put the game out of reach No penalties were called on Georgetown Saturday the locals travelled to and dropped a closely contested game After falling behind in the first the normally high scoring hosts were held to only one more marker in the next minutes- of play thanks to tighter defence and better checking Georgetown pressed but could not cash in on their scoring opportunities Orangevllle was assessed eight penalties to the black and white four Sunday the locals hosted the class of the league The visitors netted two in the first at and and were held off the scoreboard until 13 53 of the third Again good play was evident for most of the game Two quick goals some six minutes later and another with seconds left ended a scoring plays and Georgetown hopes Rebels take first with hoop victory Never was the saying a good offence Is a good defence more appropriate than at Thursday s Georgetown Acton junior girls high school basketball game The Rebels held Acton to just seven points In the second half after a 13 deadlock in the first half to take a The game was played at the Georgetown gym The key to the Georgetown win came in the third quarter when the Rebels kept the visitors off the scoreboard and added 10 points of then- own The two teams played fairly even in the final quarter Rebels but the damage had already been done The win gave the Rebels top spot in the East Heltons North Division Although both Georgetown and Acton are tied with identical 131 records the Rebels scored more points In the two games played between the two schools The Rebels had to win by more than five points as Acton won the first meeting in the season opener for both clubs The Rebels defensive game plan Contests final chapter not a happy one for Acton JUST ME AND MY SHADOWS Acton Red men Sue Craig finds her progress impeded here by no less than two Georgetown Rebels Allison Irvine and Jenny Melville Craig was often double and triple teamed In Thursday game won by the Georgetown team Herald photo by Dan Ralph As the final chapter of the George town Acton senior girls basketball story came to an end It appeared the would leave with their eighth win of the year However this was one book you couldn t Judge by the cover Rebel forward Book had the tying and winning baskets as the Georgetown squad ended regular season with a IS win The East North Division game was Electric pee wees end hockey week with split Field invoices owing Several groups and leagues still have outstanding Invoices for the use of lights during the 1963 sports season These groups are reminded that all accounts must be paid by November Groups still owing monies will not receive consideration for park use in until all accounts are cleared Please direct all inquiries to once again defeat the Electric AA Major Surproel The locals were ready to show the stuff they ore made of A strong team drew first blood midway through the first stanza The lead was short lived as 20 seconds later Mark sent Jim English and Andy in on a two on one break beat the blue and gold on a crease pass from English to tie the match Craig Cooper capitalized on a sleeping defence to sneak In alone and put an accurate past the netmlnder to put George town one up Hard passes and fast skating dominated this frame of hockey as well and the locals pulled ahead with a In from Wes McCauley on the thigh of Wade Serjeantson Tholocala went up 41 as Mike McElroy wrist shot from the blue line beat the goalie with a bounce as he went down to attempt the save retaliated with a power play marker to dose the gap Excellent penalty killing wan displayed by Dale Mike Melville Chad Bailey David Watts Bill McDonald and with Rod earning the assist on goal number four turned on the burners In the third period applying pressure on the Georgetown squad and narrowing the locals lead on a power play marker Home fans were on the edges of their seats for the last minutes of the game as the squad played with no goalie in the opposing net Pearce Cooper and Minlnch effectively closed the door on to maintain tbe lead and cement the win Paul St Pierre took Ihe Ideal honours In the crease with a fast glove when called upon Travelling to Milton Sunday the crew were downed by the host club penalty minutes were assessed to both clubs 22 for the locals and to Milton in a poorly officiated fiasco Georgetown solo goal was notched by McCauley assisted by Melville played Thursday at the Georgetown gym The win gave Georgetown a record on the year while the Redmen finished the season off at Milton won top spot with an record Offensively Book led the way for the with 10 paints while Chris Harris chipped in with eight points Boo Tufford who fouled out in the fourth quarter was Ihe high Acton player with eight points The game had no bearing on the final standings in the North Division Even had Acton won the game and finished tied with Milton the would have still been second on the points scored ratio between the two teams in regular season play As for the Rebels the win still left the Georgetown squad spot and In the playoffs All three North squads made the with the top team getting a bye from the first round Georgetown coaches Meredith and Spina were happy with the win and saw a lot of positive things from their club We rebounded well and kept snooting today which was a big step for us Smye said after the game But the main thing was we were a lot better today on offence Acton coaches McLaren and Anne Andrews said Thursday game was the tint bad game their squad has played all year We ve played bad some quarters but never a game McLaren said We Just didn t have it today We had bad hands made fundamental errors they whipped us on the boards and as a result us As for the playoffs Acton played at home Tuesday against an unknown opponent McLaren said If his club plays like It did throughout most of the regular season they II be a competlt ive team We II have to go with what got us here he said We re a good shooting team that makes few errors and have to count on that because we re not an overly fast team was to make Acton s Susan Craig work forherpolnts In the first game played between the two teams Craig had of her team 32 points and literally carried the offence Thursday Rebel coach Moe Leek had one of his players Cindy take Craig mantoman In order to slow her up a little bit when Craig hot the ball That way two Rebel defenders Jenny Melville Allison Irvine laying off Craig a bit could react in time to neutralize her Craig fouled out with left to play I told Cindy to get in her way for a step which would be all Jenny and Allison would need Leeklng said We wanted to make her work for the ball But you can t say enough about her When you wrap up an entire game plan on one player It is out of respect Bald As well as Murnoghan played defensively the Rebel player also hurt Acton offensively as she was the Georgetown high scorer with 12 points Melville had nine points also The Rebels had some extra lucent for the win Prior to the contest posted a copy of the Acton Free Press story on the first meeting of the two teams That Issue the Acton paper ran a headline saying the Redmen stomped the Rebels in tbe fivepoint win They were a little upset Leek said of his team after reading tbe headline They wanted to prove they belonged Acton coaches McLaren and Anne Andrews said the third Quarter was the key to the win That when Acton lost point guard Margie fouled out and forward Monica Parker leg injury They played a straight man on Sue and bad a stuffing type triangle behind that McLaren said All we could get were 12 foot shots and we weren t able to hit Georgetown now has a bye in the first round of the playoffs while Acton hosted the third place squad from the South Tuesday Georgetown will host the Souths second best squad while Acton will be on the road at the South best remaining club Should Georgetown win their game they will host the championship If Acton won and Georgetown lost then the will host the final which would be their third consecutive Acton has won the titlo the last two years Today was as much a mental victory Leeking said As long as they re In the playoffs they re the champs but we got a little bit of a confidence builder today McLaren stressed he wasnt inak Ing excuses for the loss but added three starters the two Porkers and Kim had the flu and missed school as a result Coach optimistic ROCKING
