SECTION A Etonian lOsr Suspicion deceit in the hallways of Mousetrap By Herald Muff The cast of Georgetown Little Theatre s The Mousetrap captured the opening night audience and let them go home perhaps a little more suspicious The dark characters of gat ha Christie murder mystery classic led the almost capacity crowd through the grim corridors of deceit to a surprise inish The players and the script do a good Job of hiding the ultimate If you were to keep a list of reasons why you felt each character was responsible all lists would be about the same length The play Is sit fittingly in English country home Manor The manor Is converted into a guest house by a young couple Mollic and Giles Ralston played by Jacky Willows and John Day who inherited it The great hall of the manor where most of the activity takes place is pleasingly convincing Wood panel ing a high doorway and a large win dow looking out on a winter scene are details you would expect at an English country home Georgetown Little Theatre did a good job collecting post war period furniture for the hall There were many nice details that add to the authenticity such as scams up the back of the Indies stockings Special effects were also handled nicely Music lighting fall snow and sound effects were always right on time The set and special effects added to the tension expected when eight people are snowbound and one of them is a murdered And the play docs get tense very tense there are characters like Mr who break that tension with some comic relief I- rank Mr the unexpected visitor As the loud romantic wealthy and macabre Italian rank received the best re ponse from the audience Mr McKic is convincing us the sarcastic Itahin with eerie and flair for the dramatic lie is un the strongest in the play Rod Cook lb ilso slrong is Christopher Wren the npernmcntal architect I ike Mr Par Wren provides a dcil of comic relief Hod Cook is capable at being bold brash and bubbly but loses Ins skill of convincing the audience when the demands we pity him Other strong performances in elude those given by Divld Clifton as Major Jackie Willows as Mollic Ralston and Stacy us Miss Caswell John Day as Giles Ralston the inn keeper and Shell Seott as Mrs Doyle a retired judce give wonder ful performances at times but do have their weaknesses One wonders about an inn kit per who is comfortable with small talk and a retired Judge with whining voice who shows little plomacy in her The success of the play depends more than other character on Detective Trotter played by Don He is the sleuth guides the phi He is the who suspects everyone Don proves to be strong enough to hold the murder mystery together until Two Manors guests b the fircplucr in the famous pi a The Mousetrap Miss the Blind must ret Mice of the murderer stops Whether the ends with or a whimper must be discovered for yourself To say anything the ending could it and as part of the opening night Christopher IVrcn promised to in Hie perform line lit script and the this re win mo than my other The play con John 1 Theatre ili For Shutterbugs Photoart judges select of the best This year s juried exhibition of photographs at the
