MOODER Herald Staff The past year was a very tous one for Open Door chairman John Carter told board members at the drop- centres first annual meeting During 1987 the Open Door became an entity unto Itself separate from St Georges Church and received its patent as a corpora lion Sept 17 1987 when It registered with the Ontario government Speaking to the group of assembled at St George a Saturday morning Mr Carter explained some of the centre past events Open Door developed plans to ex pand from a two to a five day a week operation and to initiate a teen mother a program As well Mr Carter said discus sions which began with the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services COMSOC in July culminated in January 1968 with its agreement to fund the charity SB annually Is also willing to provide 800 in the January to March 800 in the January to March 1968 period to buy needed equipment and furniture for Optn Door and to assist ftn In the centres operating expenses Mr Carter said Open Door a dropIn centre for was the inspiration of St Georges Church rector Jim Boyle In 1983 It first opened its doors in 1984 as an extension of St George before it became separate In 1987 Scruton counsellor at Open Kids hobby fair Door gave a programming report explaining how the program operated on a twoday a week throughout the school terms with oc casional Friday night activities Open Door
