known locally as the Apple Products Property In February Town Council gave approval to proceed with Hon and subsequently a bylaw to designate was passed This came about after a year of work by Mr Doug Brock the owner and the Helton Hills Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee In the fall of 1987 a Designation Report was produced by committee members Eric Connolly and Richard In conjunction with the owner The report dealt with the historic and architectural reasons for which the community should consider designating the building under the Ontario Heritage Act It was this report which precipitated the final designation bylaw for the Williams Mill and The Georgetown Electric Light Com pany Power Plant The two buildings ore Industrial and until recently unloved lures of our communities built heritage Unloved perhaps but when seen in the context of old Glen Williams they are In fact Important historic and landmarks Both structures arc dominant in the approach to Glen Williams along Main Street from the west at the Credit River bridge robust in dustrial character are a contrast to the natural backdrop of trees on the east side of the valley With Mr Brock s ant rehabilitation and with development of the Credit more visibly as historic landmarks Both buildings have been employers to the Glen for over 80 years and have therefore played a large role In its economic welfare The Williams Mill owned by the family to which Glen Will ami owes Its name is a three and a half storey timber structure with clapboard siding It is believed to have been built around grant after the work has been completed to their satisfaction in terms of architectural authenticity Mr Brock Is being assisted with details of the building Also some original doublehung six over six twelve light windows existed on the build ng which Ron Johnson of Paisley Ontario Is using as a pat tern in order to reproduce new sash as exact replicas These new windows will be installed with inter
