evening playing to a soldout crowd and giving an ab solutely terrific performance He sang for nearly three hours with one short break and never lost his energy He was all over the stage and played the audience like the old pro he is We a Georgetown contingent of five had seats Just behlncThim and he never forgot the fans in the back singing to them constantly Ive never seen a performer so geared to pleasing the crowd conse quently the audience never quite calmed down and at times It was hard to hear Stewart over the din of applause and singing along Make Concert Review mistake Rods back and lies really Out rocking The audience was generally back ecstatic and the fans ranged In from si or seven to Our five ranged from ib to and every one of us loved it Stewart opened with Hot Legs then moving on to such classics as Tonights the Night and Sweet Little Rock and Roller From there on he did a of old and new with em phasls on old though not always old enough for me I have a fair number of Rods records but I stopped buy after lBTTs Footloose and Fancy Free Once he sold out to disco with Do Think Im Sexy he was out In the wilderness until this years Order album brought him rock and roll All right I a purist Backed by an excellent bond Stewart song such hits as Mandolin Wind he played the acoustic guitar for this Reason to Believe Twisting the Night Away and of course his best and brilliant Maggie May Throughout these songs the au dience sang along and at times Stewart let the fans sing the chorus there was never a missed note This show was a reminder of how many wonderful songs Stewart has written or performed despite all the great numbers he song there were so many others he left out Personal favorites such as Gasoline Alley Salting and I Was Only Joking were conspicuously absent I think he could have done five hours worth of material easily Surprisingly given this prolific output Stewart chose to reprise Forever Young as an encore It a a good song but as 18yearold Tracy put it He done about five hundred albums youd think he wouldnt need to do a song twice Yeah Rod One favorite he sang was Curtis Mayflelds glorious gospel hit Peo ple Get Ready a song recorded with Jeff Beck about five years ago which ended up being the cause of con siderable acrimony between the two old bandmates It was a surprise to hear it and I hope this Is a sign that things are better between the two Stewart was backed by log character who cries every morn ing and then spends he rest of the day tormenting the other characters including Albert Brooks style film that
