Ryerson Journalism student at the time and at one point worked at the Herald as a coop student This is only the first of many trees the MUlesses hope to donate to different sites in the area We Ham category in the annual cured meat competi tion in conjunction with the ninth annual convention of the Ontario Meat Packers and Processors recently Entries in this contest held an nually at the Markham fairgrounds are judged on the basis of aroma flavor eye appeal shape and texture of the meat The competition draws entries in five product categories from across Ontario which include bacon black forest ham country ham a meat platter and salami Mr has been the owner of Custom Meats for 16 years and has entered the competi tion every year Last year they placed third in the bacon category This year Custom Meats also entered the bacon as well as the black forest categories Mr feels that we should have come first and it was a bit of a surprise that they didnt He thinks that maybe hes a bit pre judiced to his own product but doesnt understand why they didnt place first He holds the utmost respect for the other competitors which in cluded Franz Butcher Shop who placed first and Dougherty Meats in who placed second The companies can enter the competition at the annual conven tion of the Independent Meat Packers and Processors the pro vinces only trade organization representing small businessmen in the meat processing packing and industry Judges for this years panel con sisted of Dr Ron meat specialist University of Guelph Cathy swine specialist for the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food Fred Scholl Sheridan College Hotel and Restaurant Division and Klaus Kapps technical director MMIS When asked if Custom Meats will enter and come in first at next from Nelson Womens Institute to a euchre party to be Georgetown runners join fight against Alzheimers Months of training and planning will come together for five dedicated runners May when they join for the Toshiba National Capital Marathon in Ottawa to raise funds for Alzheimers research Richard Martin a retired employee of Northern Telecom along with David Booth Jim Clarke both of Georgetown Jim OHandley and Debbie all presently employed with Northern Telecom have been training at the fitness facility located in the Brampton Division building For Richard Martin this is the second marathon he has done for Alzheimers Disease research Last years Montreal International Marathon brought in 7000 in pledges all of which went towards finding the cause cure and treat ment of this incurable degenerative brain disorder affec ting an estimated Ontario residents The Northern Telecom fitness facility in the Brampton division will be host to a pledge day on May at li am Appealing to some Nor thern Telecom employees the ban- SPECIAL will be raised and the team of runners suited up for a pre- marathon event involving Nor thern Telecom and the Alzheimers Society of Peel Pledges can be sent Landscaping course are to approach the Hillcrest Church to enhance the landscaping of the area for ap preciation for all the times the Womens Institute has had the use of the church for meetings Delegates were appointed for the District Annual to be held on Satur day May at 930 am at Boston Church and all the members sign ed a card to be sent to Mary Bird who has moved to the Extended Care
