Thompson is expected to know much about the dairy industry However her past year as the Peel Region dairy princess has shown sometimes you have to get down to the basics Her visits to area grade schools are a good example Lynda 21 said some kids have lota to learn for more see News page 12 These kids really don t know much about farming she said They learn that milk comes from a cow It doesnt come from a store One other lesson older kids learn is fanning is a business and t the simple life people used to agine In Peel Region Lynda is in a urn que area that mixes urban and rural life Lynda who lives near Georgetown said her role as dairy princess is to try to bndge the gap between the two She is a likeable ambassador for the dairy industry She also has what it takes at dairy competi tions winning the dairy princess title The annual event features contestants who are judged on knowledge of the dairy in dustry as well as poise personal and maturity Donna Beggs the Ontario Dairy said the eventual winner will face a rigorous schedule that can be tough it is a hard job she said It s a full time job It s a lot of hard work The Ontario Dairy Princess must leave school or work for the year she spends promoting dairy products She travels throughout Ontano and Ms Beggs said she also visited England for two weeks as part of the job What made it tough though was living according to the tight schedule set by others was told where I had to go When I was going to be there I was told what I was going to have to do she said didn t have time to be me Its an enjoyable experience but
