permit holder Gwen reported that Ashgrove has members In the new fall project Good Foods Fast Correspondence included a notice of the Guelph Area Conven tion to be held at on Oct 26 and 27 and to Halton District Day at Hall on Nov from to 5 pm Ethel Wilson gave a most in teresting motto on All nations smile in the same language Program convenor introduced the guest speaker Lynn Hawthorne Miltons Rotary Exchange student to Turkey and her teacher Paul Mr Linger is an English teacher at EC High School and who is involved in the Rotary Exchange program A student again this year at Lynn returned in from a years visit in Istanbul a of 12 million people After applying for the trip hum went through screening a I several interviews before being chosen It was a challenging experience for a 17yearold to alone to a country and live when she didnt know ih language Lynn fount a smile is a common language and learned to handle herself in difficult situations Though the culture and lifestyle were different she learned to fit in with her host family and the school Now fluent in Turkish she made friends and got to know and mix with all the groups in her school Rotary youth exchanges are meant to foster peace around the world Such a charming articulate young person as Lynn would indeed represent Canada well Because Sept 19 was designated a Day of Peace the meeting ed relatives Head table guests along with Hardy and Ruby were Stan Joe an uncle of Rubys and his wife Olive of Acton Norman and Ver Wilson of Thomhill and Mrs Cox of Milton both aunts of Rubys Mrs Charles Streb of Florida a friend and Mrs Hat- tie Joe an aunt from Toronto Mr Stan Joe master of ceremonies for the evening pro posed a toast to Hardy and Ruby Following the dinner vefyone in turn introduced themselves after which an Old Tyme Songfest was led by Glenn Laidlaw accompanied by Iva Davidson A presentation on a re cent trip to Russia was given by Joe and Van who added to the presentation with a commentary and beautiful slides Following dessert and coffee everyone sang Now is the Hour and Bless be the tie that Binds Then everyone departed from a great evening that was long Norval United Church Sept 21 for a dessert lunch President Dorothy opened the meeting with a poem The Key to Living is Giving The minutes were read by Kay Wilson who ex pressed thanks to unit members
