she pur chased for her father s grave site be placed in an upright position in Greenwood Cemetery in Georgetown where the man was buried last March Bernard Postlethwaite died of cancer last March at age 52 But a town ruling last week said the deceased Mr s headstone will have to lay flat or be used as a pillow marker Grant Usher from the town s finance department said the area where Mr is buried is reserved for social assistance burials No elevated tombstones are allowed in thit section Nobody told me what section my father was in Nobody told me until after the headstone was done in July Mrs said He was supposed to be under social service when he died but it turned out he had enough money to cover the burial Mr Postlethwaite was buned in the social assistance plot days before the social assistance ap plication was rejected Mrs Kavanagh ordered a 300 upright headstone as a final to her father who spent the last years of his life in illness and in a retirement home He s dead It s not going to make a difference to him But it s going to make a difference to me I know about rules and regulations but this is ridiculous Mrs received some report from town councillors She contacted rural Councillor Joe Hewitt for assistance in getting an upright headstone Hewitt spoke in support of Mrs Kavanagh at a recent council meeting After by the cemetery this week and after reading Mrs s letter I can believe that we just allow the upright marker he said Mrs Kavanagh consulted a lawyer Thursday and had planned to pursue legal action with the town but she said the lawyer told her she would lose He said it the government and they can do what they want Mr Usher said the town is not to blame for the confusion ding Mrs Kavanagh s father s grave He said the Milton company who made the upright headstone should have contacted the town before finishing the project The company wrote to the town in July asking for a base for an upright stone That request was refused Basically they know how our cemetery works Mr Usher said Mrs said Thursday she will use the headstone as a marker She said the 300 cost will not be wasted That s a lot of money for me It may not be a lot for some people but it s a lot forme Woman honored for sales effort A Georgetown resident received an award from Aloette Cosmetics for sales achievements Mary Lou Ireland was one of five Toronto area residents to
