valley when they could have reached the heights in an invitational exhibition volleyball tournament staged Saturday at Heights High School in Mississauga The previous Wednesday Oct 25 the Rebels had clinched first place in the Halton Leagues Eastern Division standings by vir tue of a best twooutofthree match win over A Blakelock High School of Oakville in a Rebel girls in playoffs Georgetown District High School Rebels senior girls basketball team tuned up for the oncoming league playoffs by captur ing top honors in the King City Senior Girls Basketball Tourna ment on the weekend In their opening game the Rebels throttled 489 with Kelly Cotton and Melissa Corson each scoring eight points to lead the Georgetown charge Humberview was toppled 3819 by Georgetown with Heather Lawrence scoring nine points and Jenny Ryan and Carolyn Stewart each hooping four points In their toughest match of the tournament the Rebels squeaked past King City 3433 to claim tour nament laurels In the championship game Heather Lawrence led the Rebel attack with nine points while Carolyn Stewart and Cindy each chipped in with eight points The GDHS senior Rebels girls basketball team finished in assist Ching got a goal while Georgetown was shorthanded but M and M got It back less than a minute later when Brent Couling scored with assists to Mashinter and Thompson Jake Mashinter picked up his third point of the night when he converted a hard point shot from Matt Downs to salt the game away Ching scored one more goal late in the period but It proved too little too late as Georgetown gave them their second loss of the season We played a very tough team tonight said coach John Wright and proved we were up to the challenge We didnt give them an inch and our goaltending had them talking to themselves Thomas Spencer was solid in net for us tonight and was a big factor in the win Sunday saw the locals host Streetsville and come out on the short end of a game Streetsville opened the scoring with seconds left in the first period Then Georgetowns Steve Wright tied it up at 102 of the se cond assists to Jake Mashinter and Brent The visitors scored two more in the second and it wasnt until 1158 of the third that Georgetown got on the scoreboard again when Chris Barrow scored from Wrights pass in front of the net stretched their lead 15 seconds later on a powerplay goal Then Georgetowns Matt Downs scored the final goal of the game from a behind the net pass ing play from Shawn Curry and Shaun Pearson This is the fifth game weve lost by one goal said coach Wright Weve got
