put the final touches on the Fifth Annual Georgetown Hockey Heritage Council Oldtimers Hockey Tourna ment in the tournament office early Sunday evening at the Gor don Memorial Arena Thirtytwo teams involving a fewday period six divisions competed laurels Each team was guaranteed three games Games Thursday through Satur day were played at both Gordon Alcott Memorial Arena and Georgetown Memorial Arena while division championships were decided Sunday at Gordon Memorial Arena Tournament titles werent the only things up for grabs as division champions qualified for the sponsored provincial champion ships scheduled for April in St Catharines The tournament was run by the nucleus of the Georgetown Chrysler Raiders Intermediate and Senior hockey teams ex ecutive which has never disband ed and hosted by the Georgetown Raiders of the Cen tral Ontario Junior Hockey League had nothing but praise for all those involved who helped make this years tournament such a success Stan and Don Olson worked with Poulstrup as con venors while Bob Hooper Ron Faulkner Bill Large A Steve Hoare Bill McKeown Lou Pieroy and Howard Walker also provided invaluable aid Wayne Pries the liaison person with the Georgetown Pontiac- Buick Raiders was thanked by for his work and it was noted that the Raiders Fulfilled their commitments nicely Poulstrup offered special thanks for a job welldone to Moe Schenk and his team of Canadian Hockey Association of ficials who handled duties Old time reunion Eventual Division cham pion Kings were the sentimental favorites of fans at the Fifth Annual Georgetown Hockey Heritage Council Oldtimers Hockey Tournament over the weekend at Gordon Alcott Memorial Arena and Georgetown Memorial Arena The Kings boasted a number of former Georgetown Chrysler Raiders Intermediate and Senior hockey teams members on their roster Former Raider captain John was a presence on the Kings Bodanis Bruins gain a split The Georgetown Major A Bruins gained a split in their TriCounty action this week On Oct 30 the Bodanis Bruins travelled to Burlington and in a disappointing performance suf fered a loss The Georgetown side outshot their hosts but on the entire night seemed to be a yard short and a minute late While goalie John Waller wasnt peppered with rub ber the majority of shots were golden opportunities Doug Shep- pard scored two pretty goals to provide the Major Peewees with their offence Defenceman Brent Wilkinson earned the Bodanis Bruins sole assist Fortunately the Major were idle on Saturday as eight of the were involved in the Provincial Cup Volleyball Tournament It bears mentioning that Matt Brain Gavin Glaser and Brent Wilkinson and their Stewarttown teammates reached the semifinals in the 28 team tournament The Bodanis Bruins and their parents wish to congratulate Jim Katsilieris Doug Sheppard Stephen Jamie Stephenson and Erler though inactive with a finger in jury and the remainder of the Centennial squad as they captured the gold medal in this prestigious tournament Georgetown travelled to Bramp ton on Sunday and buried their host by a score of 83 Sheppard had a field day for the Major Peewees as he recorded the hat- trick and added a pair of assists Stephenson chipped in with three assists off a very strong effort Erler Onoprijenko Brain Stephen Yurlchuk and Mark each scored a goal Brain with a pair of assists and singles to Duke Bousktll Blaine McCauley Aldridge and Onopri jenko rounded out the Bodanis Bruins scoring Chad Hughes very capably the Georgetown victory blueiine and he was joined by former Raider favorites Pat Yuri Kudrasovs Doug Tate Tom Gilbert and Steve Blun- dy Ray Tonelli and Peter McDuffe late of the Raiders laced up the blades for the Milton Oldtimers while former Raider top gunner Ray Evans played for the Shakeys Sports team The tournament is run by the nucleus of the Intermediate and Senior Raiders executive and in fact the executive has never been disbanded Tournament chairman Finn also a member of the former Raiders teams executive stated that plans are well under way to form a Raiders Oldtimers hockey team to challenge in tour nament competition Any player who had seen ice time with either the Intermediate or Senior Raiders would be eligible to try out for the team Judging by the stillobvious talent displayed by former Raiders in the weekend tournament the team to be the Rebels in a sudden- death shootout to claim the A Division championship of the Fifth Annual Georgetown Hockey Heritage Council Oldtimers Tour nament in the final game of the fourday affair late Sunday after noon at Gordon Alcott Memorial Arena To describe the game as nailbiting would be an understate ment along the lines of describing Don Cherry as somewhat reserv ed With both lineups liberally sprinkled with veteran competitive players the calibre of play truly highlighted the excellence of the tournamentoverall There was little to choose bet ween the teams over the course of regulation time as play ebbed and flowed the length of the ice surface in almost nonstop action Rod Farmer from Rick Walker drew first blood for the Rebels near the midway point of the opening period but Doug Tate on an unassisted effort evened the score heading into the second period of play The Rebels edged ahead 21 in the first minute of the second period on a goal by Don Kinsman with assists going to Joe and John Good Just over two minutes later Yuri Kudrasovs scored for Kings assisted by Tate and Tom Gilbert and the second period end ed in a deadlock Goaltending highlighted play in the
