Georgetown Cultural Centre Wednesday night Mr Black possiblv one of the first deceased artists to be ex hibited in the cultural centre be queathed 15 worth of paintings and sketchbooks to the Town of Halton Hills Mr Black s wife Lillian made the bequest which was formally received by Halton Hills Mayor Miller The Black paintings displayed the cultural centre until Nov span the last few decades back to the 1920s The paintings shown at the exhibit are largely oil on can vas and many depict oceans and waterfronts Several people paid tribute to the memory of Frank Black who resided for years Georgetown The couple owned a house on Guelph Street Mayor Miller John Sommer Doug Batten and Roy Burnett Mr Black nephew all described the deceased painter as a great artist with a good sense of humor Mr Black founded the Palett and Pencil Club after retirement He received his art education the Ontano College of Art OCA in Toronto During his lifetime the artist was decorated for acts of braver in the First World War and did some graphic design for newspapers including the Toronto Star This self portrait painted by Frank Black about a year before his death last spring was on display the opening night of an exhibition of the deceased artist works The artist s wife Lillian Black donated 2n of her hus band s paintings and a number of sketchbooks to tbe Town of Hills Frank Black s
