provincial Retail Business Holidays Act Halton Regional Police charged the fruit market s owner Joe Schbiha with having more than the maximum allowed number of employees working in the store on a holiday Jan 7 No more than three employees are allowed to be working in a store the size of the Georgetown Fruit Market on a holiday the act says Mr knew he was break the law but it a protest opening Call it a coincidence he said Mr Schbiha called the current legislation stupid And he went on to say that the law should be dealt with by the province and not the regions The province should settle the problem by either introducing stif fer penalties for repeat offenders or letting owners decide whether to open Sundays Police also charged Miracle Food Mart on Street on Guelph Street Shop pers Drug Mart on Street A and on Sinclair Avenue for opening Sunday These Georgetown stores have all been charged at least once before A Feb 12 court date has been scheduled in connection with the charges The committee also heard the planning department s objection that the car wash is a minor variance Construction will appear before the Ontario Municipal Board to appeal the decision by the Hills adjustment told Bullut Construction it would nave to seek an amendment to the zoning bylaw to build the car wash The general committee passed a resolution allowing the town ing staff to attend the upcoming OMB to uphold the town s zoning bylaw Council will vote on the recom 15 Acton Councillor Gerald Rennie asked why the bylaw doesn t allow for car washes during Monday night s meeting Coun suggested that the lineups at the three car washes on Guelph Street now show that the town might need another one The bylaw was introduced in the early 70s restricting the number of car washes in Georgetown to three because that what the market could handle Mr Mayor Russ Miller said Construction used the wrong pro cess in applying to build the car wash and therefore the town staff should
