manager Bob Hooper no mediate changes or additions are planned for the team roster heading into the stretch drive of the Central Ontario Junior B Hockey Leagues West Division regular season Raiders have until Feb to finalize their roster of players including so Hooper will have his ever present hockey antennae operating until the last minute All teams in the Central Ontario Junior Hockey League qualify for the playoffs so despite the fact the Raiders sit in last place in the league West Division with a record there is always hope that playoff success can salvage what has thus far been a disappoln ting season Raiders will be hoping to con tinue the team s recent string of modest success with a pair of weekend matches Raiders played in Burlington Friday evening at press time the score and drop to fifth place the six team loop Most recently the Sabres drop ped a tough 65 overtime decision on the road to Schomberg then thoroughly confused their sup porters by barely going through the motions in a 103 loss to Brad ford Bulls in their home arena Ac ton Community Centre The Sabres only have four regular season games remaining in their schedule and should the league standings remain the same Acton would hook up with Caledon Flyers in a first round playoff senes The Sabres journeyed to Orangeville Friday night for a con test against the leagueleading Crushers At press time the and successful Georgetown made it to the Consolation Final for the division The fired up Fuelers had everyone on the edge of their seats in game one against Two minutes into the second Georgetown finally scored on a rush by Pete assisted by Jamie Hespeler then let loose and not ched their own goal Not to be out done Georgetown Garry McNiven put the puck in from the slot by a behind the net pass from Mashinter Chris Goodhew then did the same with a pass from Darin With five minutes left in the game Hespeler scored but a final tally of went in Georgetown favor Game two against the division winners from ended in a loss Game three with a 7 2 win to be the best Georgetown game against Trenton The whole team hustled and tallied five goals in period one to Trenton 5 lone marker Two more were added in the second period with Trenton getting their second This put Georgetown into the semi finals with Cobourg Near the close of the first period grabbed the puck with a long stretch and put us on the scoreboard unassisted Not until the third period did the puck go between the pipes again scored one for Georgetown with assists to Mashinter and Pilgrim Shortly after a bounce off the boards enabled the a chance to slap it Into the net scored from Pilgrim Geoff played strongly in the net The fifth and final game pitted Georgetown against Ottawa Valley for the championship fortunately it wasn to be for Georgetown took a 7 loss The opened the scoring in the first period with McNiven taking the rebound on a shot from Mashinter The second belonged to Ottawa as they notched five goals to our one scored unassisted on a long rush Penalties hurt us from here on Period three saw Ottawa score again on a hurt Georgetown goalie who was down motionless and ob viously t stop the puck The goal should not have counted but was awarded anyway Mashinter then scored from the slot with assists going to Bnggs and Goodhew with passes from behind the net Ottawa then put their final goal in the net Geoff Beauparlant and Andrew Craig shared net duties for this game and the rest of the tour Garry McNiven was awarded player of the game and another member of the team Stephen couldn t with visions of a possible provincial title hovering tantalizingly in the distance The Sunny Acres crew finished in first place over the 198990 Tri County Hockey League regular season and drew fifth place Wood bridge as their first round playoff opponent for the best of three series Sunny Acres posted a fine 22 31 regular season mark to wrap up first place while chugged home with a record However as the old sports sage has noted many times playoffs represent an entirely new season so Sunny Acres would be well advised not to take Woodbridge too lightly The first game the bestof three series was scheduled for day night at Gordon Alcott Arena At press time the score was not available The second game in the series is slated for 15 Sunday even tomorrow at the Richmond Hill Arena Should a third
