flooding in the area cil decided Monday night This resolution has no effect on Meagan Developments subdivision at Lot and Concession 9 in Glen Council also directed town staff to seek money from Meagan Developments to help fund a We storm sewer on Road that would intercept the Credit River tributary to reduce the amount of flooding in the area caused by storms The town could use the money in another area or storm water management depen ding on the results of the study Developments using an engineering report by the Rand consulting firm argues that a storm sewer would only reduce flooding of properties in the Wildwood Road and Confederation Street area by four per cent Rand engineers looked at several ways to reduce the flooding in this area resulting from ferent levels of storms and con eluded the storm sewer would be the best solution But they argue that a four per cent reduction in flooding due to a storm sewer is a relatively negligi ble amount was therefore to pay the for the storm sewer Hal ton wants to recycle in the Regions schools The first step in a long process to bring recycling to Halton Hills schools was taken by the Halton Board of Education at a meeting Jan The recycling manager s salary will be paid for by the grant The other will go towards paying for the necessary equipment to collect and store the schools recyclable materials Superintendent of business ser vices Jerry Jenkins submitted the grant application to the board for approval Mr Jenkins said the STAR pro gram is a long term project He also noted that In Its first year a lot of attitudes will have to be changed for the program to be successful The provincial governments commitment to the STAR program is only for one year he noted Although he was questioned about the need for a recycling co ap proving the grant application to the province He said the board does not need to approve the staff at the meeting Mr Jenkins said if the staff member is not approved at a later date the application will simply be turned down at that point The towns administrative clerk Dan said legally the town could require Meagan to enter into a costsharing agreement with the town to cover four per cent of the cost of the storm sewer This is the dollar equivalent to the amount of flooding Meagan Developments is adding to the area Mr said the town would expect Meagan to act as a good corporate citizen and contribute more than the four per cent But he acknowledged that legally the town is in an iffy position to ask for more than the four per cent Acton Councillor Norm Elliott was adamant that should be required to enter into a cost sharing agreement He speculated there would be further applications from developers to build in Glen Williams which eventually would require additional storm sewer construction But if Meagan have a cost sharing then the town would ef fectively give up its right to ask for payment the future he said Coun Joe Hewitt agreed with cost sharing in principle but he argued a storm sewer wouldnt be sufficient in size to handle further development the Coop closes up The Georgetown Coop closed down over the weekend by auc tioning everything they could to the public
