committee to be a living poll of the communi ty Const Bill Riddle first arrived in Acton on a Halton Regional Police Task Force to survey what the peo ple wanted in the way of policing the community He still plans to get the com munitys input but because surveys take up so much time he has started creating a committee that will in a way be my eyes and ears of the community I perceive the committee com ing up with ideas problems that I can solve he said Even if there is a problem that is not necessarily policerelated it can be aired in the open to make sure it does not eventually become a police matter Const Riddle said He not only wants the communi ty to become more involved in the policing aspect of daily life but he also wants the police to be a part of the community The police need more input from people to decide and create the kinds of programs the police can produce Const Riddle said Its so I can create programs around their Ideas he added Const Riddle has already sent out invitations to members of chur ches businesses and schools to get the committee started Once the final membership and organization is established Const Riddle plans to meet with the com mittee every three months He believes the group will be a con tinuous living poll of the communi ty If any member of the general public is interested in joining the committee they are asked to call Const Riddle at the village con stables office Const Riddle says the combina tion of the normal police work and community projects that he handles make this probably the most interesting police work of Denny Charles one of the areas most respected citizens Denny Charles The Georgetown man was raised in Toronto and attended Collegiate He later moved with his parents to the former Hugh Calf farm on the Fifth Line of Es- quesing Denny graduated from the Ontario Agricultural College in Guelph with a degree in animal science For many years he and his wife Evelyn Follicle operated a dairy farm and while he was far ming Mr Charles was involved with many agricultural organiza tions including Norval Junior Farmers Jersey Cattle Club On tario Federation of Agriculture Farm Radio Forum Co operative Supplies and the Georgetown Agricultural Socie ty He was still actively involved m the latter organization at the time of his death Following retirement he and his wife built a new home on the farm and Denny became an agent for the CoOperative In surance Along with other dedicated peo ple Mr Charles was instrumen tal in the planning and building of Georgetown District Memorial Hospital He served on the board of directors for 12 years including one as president Prior to the introduction of regional government in Mr Charles also served several terms on the committee of adjust ment He was an active member of the Masonic Order for 50 years serving as Master of Credit Lodge and being appointed Grand Sword Bearer in Mr CharlCs was also a member of St Georges Anglican Church Georgetown As conservationists and great lovers of nature he and his wife always enjoyed their home and its forest surroundings where they observed the wildlife and made their own maple syrup Denny will be
