evening by the Georgetown Hockey Hentage Council as the 1990 recipient of the Starstudded supporting cast By COLIN GIBSON Editor The supporting cast is in place and ready to honor the leading man Roy Ward the recipient of the Georgetown House nets four Tom scored four times and added an assist as Murray Motors rolled over Georgetown Rental 73 in a Georgetown Minor Hockey Association House League playoff game last Saturday Tyson had a goal and two assists for the winners with Joel Koeslag and Jeff Williams rounding out the scoring Matt Lush collected a pair of assists for Murray Motors with single assists going to Jamie Bot tomley Reid Scott Jeff Robert Topping and Jeff Dembies scoring explosion overshadowed a fine offensive display by Robbie Wands who scored all three of the Georgetown Rental goals Joe Stephens had two assists for Georgetown Rental with Dave Pearson adding a single helper GaryMcLean popped three goals and Mike Kotsos had two goals and an assist to lead Georgetown Firefighters to a 75 triumph over Carpet Barn in another House League playoff game Dave Doole and Jason rounded out the scoring for Georgetown Firefighters and also notched an assist Thane Goodlet had a pay of assists for the winners with single helpers going to Dave Harmer Elgin Chris Howell Andy and Scott Wilson Three unanswered Georgetown Firefighters goals in a penalty marred third period pair of assists in the losing cause with single assists going to Dave Cory Evans Keith Andy and Rob Moncton Hockey Heritage Council award The 13th annual Georgetown Hockey Hentage Council Awards dinner will be held this Monday at the Holy Cross Auditorium on Maple Ave and the affair promises to be a memorable one to past successes Ron on the CBC production Hockey Night Canada will act as Master of Ceremonies and guest speakers will include Georgetown s Bryan Lewis the National Hockey League Director of Officiating and Jim Ralph of The Sports Net work s television pro gram which provides coverage of American Hockey League games Ralph who toiled in minor pro hockey ranks for a number of years is full of hockey stones and anecdotes that might best be described as unsuitable for airing on network television Head table guests include Syd Smith Lefty Bo Elick Harry Watson John Bill Hassard Peter John Lunau Murray Henderson and Ivan Irwin Former Hockey Night in Canada broadcaster Brian will be on hand to deliver a tribute to the late Francis King Clancy a long time patron of Georgetown s Little NHL and the Georgetown Hockey Heritage Council Clancy s son Terry will also be in attendance at the awards dinner to accept special presentation from the Georgetown Hockey Heritage Council in memory of his late father The dinner program will feature an article on the history of the Georgetown Memorial Arena located on Mill Street A special feature of the evening will be Darling and his col lection of hockey cards which will be on display throughout the even Georgetown junior hockey graduates Adam Bennett Rod Pasma and Trent Cull will also be in attendance as special guests of the Georgetown Hockey Heritage Council All three players have had im pressive seasons with major junior teams in the Ontario Hockey League Bennett plays for Sudbury Wolves Cornwall Royals ana with Owen Sound Platers Georgetown Hockey Heritage Council Award at the annual dinner to be held at Holy Cross on Maple Ave A shy selfeffacing man who shuns the limelight and preferred to let his deeds do the talking Ward is a deserving recipient who epitomizes the countless number of volunteers who form the backbone of hockey across Canada Typically Ward was reluctant to accept the award but was talked into accepting by his family I wasnt going to accept the award at first Ward said but the family got onto me and I reallz edit meant a lot to all of us A widower of three years he bowed to the wishes of his three grown children Paul David and Mary Jane Murray One only need look at his hockey background in Georgetown to realize just how deserving of the award is the man known as Bungy to his many fnends He played the game of hockey for nearly years in Georgetown from minor hockey through In termediate hockey ranks refereed and provided countless Georgetown youngsters with pro per hockey guidance as a coach In the 1970s he devoted his time and energy in volunteer work for local hockey and in the early 1980s was an executive member of the Intermediate A Raiders hockey team Hardy Cup champions Ward along with Joe Hall Dave Kentner Ted King Garfield McGilvray and Ken helped found the Georgetown Hockey Hentage Council in Georgetown Hockey Heritage Council chairman Dave Kentner was effusive in his praise of Ward and his tireless work on behalf of Georgetown hockey The hockey community of Georgetown and all those who have enjoyed the benefit of Roy s forts join with the Georgetown Hockey Heritage Council in saluting a worthy recipient Former Georgetown Hockey Hentage Council award winner Del Beaumont applauded the choice of Ward as the 1990 reci pient He put a lot of time into Georgetown hockey said Beau He never said much but whenever you needed help was always there to help organize things Without guys like him minor hockey just t function Another former Georgetown Hockey Heritage Council award winner Gerry was equally congratulatory to Ward Bungy was never an upfront guy noted Inglis He never wanted to be there for the hurrah He did the work from his heart and never wanted or expected anything for it He loved the game continued THANKS Sincere thanks to our many friends business associates and clientele We will carry to Kelowna all the wonderful memories they will remain in our hearts forever Bill and Monika Cook Roy Ward Inglis because of the game itself and worked with kids because he wanted to share his love of the game with them He worked with house league kids not the stars Just getting kids involved in the game meant more to him than anything else The name Roy Ward might not be that familiar to those involved at present the Georgetown hockey scene No doubt Roy would want it this way But his impact on the game at the local level through all the years of behind work has ensured that hockey continues to flourish in Hills He helped establish the hockey tradition locally and in no small way is indeed part of
