Pro Sports bantam hockey team has emerged as the most likely can didate to carry Halton Hills colors onto the championship stage as the 1990 edition of the Georgetown International Bantam Hockey Tournament annual wraps up today Saturday at Gordon Memorial Arena Championships in four divisions plus the Grand Championship trophy will be up for grabs today Saturday capping a week that has seen teams advance through division round robin play in the hope of snaggmg a championship berth Each team was guaranteed three division games before enter ing suddendeath semifinal play yesterday Friday leading up to the championship battles for all the marbles Because of press deadlines tour results could only be ob tained through last Wednesday At press deadline and M Pro Sports boasted a 1 record and rested atop the standings in Division Acton Firefighters through last Wednesday sported a oneloss one- tie record in Division while Georgetown Domtar Bs also competing in Division had a record Both Acton Firefighters and Georgetown were mired in the middle of the pack in D Division so its possible the two Hills squads couJd square off in the Division Final Georgetowns M and M Pro Sports got off to a disappointing tournament start last Saturday losing their initial contest 2 to Royal York Tom Diardichuck in the M and M Pro Sports net played a very solid game heralding better things to come once the snipers got their sights in line and M Pro Sports has since seen action twice and with all facets of the teams game coming together posted a win over Oakville and a whitewashing of Preston and Pro Sports Oakville M and M Pro Sports showed no mercy to their bantam brethren from the lakeshore as Georgetown jumped out to an early lead and never let Oakville get back into the game M and M Pro Sports led I after the first penod after two frames then Oakville 1 in the final penod to coast to the win Tom Diardichuck once again was impressive in the Georgetown nets and the offence came alive Ellard and Jake Mashinter each scored twice for M and Pro Sports with singles go ing to Tim Presswood and Shawn Pearson Steve Wnght had a pair of assists while single helpers went to Pearson Mike Large Ryan Ward Mark David and Dave Osborne Georgetown Preston The Georgetown offence came a bit against Preston but with Tom Diardichuck playing Horatio at the bridge in the and Pro Sports nets the two- goal output proved to be enough to turn aside Preston The first period ended scoreless with M and M Pro Sports finally edging ahead 10 in the waning minutes of the second penod tournaments Division championship game is slated to get underway at a today day the B Division final is set for 9 30 a the Division final will be contested at 11 am and the A Division Final is scheduled for 30 The division championship will set the stage for the Grand Cham pionship final and Division winner clash at 2 p m and the A and Division winners meet in a game The winners of these two games challenge for the Grand Champion ship trophy at 8 30 p m All games will be played at Gor don Alcott Memorial Arena Minor Novice Construction crew comes up short The Georgetown Con Minor Novice Rep team is continuing its playoff actions with games against Brampton and Burlington Last Saturday in Brampton Jason Campbell assisted by Derek Buckton opened the scoring for Georgetown Later in the first Brampton found the net tying up the game 1 1 After a scoreless second penod Georgetowns Mark MacJnnes pop ped one in after being set up by Trevor Cash Minutes later Brampton scored leaving the game tied at Last Sundays game had the McNally Construction team hosting Burlington in the first of a home- and home series Jason Campbell and each scored a goal in the first penod to give Georgetown a 20 lead Burl ington answered back with four unanswered goals In the dying minutes of the game Georgetowns Brent McClung pop ped one in to close the gap slightly The team worked hard but couldnt hang on and Burlington scored again ending the game at for Burlington Last Tuesday night in Burl ington the Minor Novices came close but came up short again Burlington pulled ahead 0 after the first penod Georgetown held them down for a scoreless second period and fought back in the thira Daniel Smith assisted by Jason Hayes and Cash scored first for Georgetown followed by a goal by Matthew
