splendid photograph of the old Georgetown Paper Makers hockey team era which you had published in your Weekend Outlook It brought back so many memories to my wife and myself We recognized all but two without Minor Atoms Century 21 on the sidelines By DAVE BEAVAN Herald Special Century 21 Minor Atoms will wrap up their season when they face Chinguacousy next week in the last game of the playoffs After opening the round robin with an inspiring comeback in Burlington for a tie Georgetown has suffered four straight losses to eliminate them from contention In the Burlington game the team came out very flat and were down after two periods Then Curtis Hoogendam stunned the opposition with two goals in less than a minute The first came from a rush down the left side and a bullet over the goalies right shoulder assist to Allan Rasmussen The second was a powerplay ef- set up by Brad Kouyoumjian and Shane Thompson and it was also on a high hard wrist shot- Then with just over four minutes left Steven Smith found Curtis at the red line with a pass and Curtis provided us with one of the hihglights of this year as he split the defence and fired a bazooka just under the crossbar for a natural hat trick three unanswered goals in one period When Curtis is allowed to shoot from the slot in full flight the op position would have a better chance with a sheet of plywood than a netminder In the four losses Georgetown totalled goals They were scored by Hoogendam 2 Shane Thomp son Wesley Blight 2 in one game Andrew Beaven Brad Kouyoumjian Allan and Trevor Rich With the exception of the Newmarket tournament this has been a disappointing season with victories coming few and far bet ween and a finish near the bottom of the standings What is even more disappointing is the fact that this team can beat anyone in their league and have done so with the exception of Milton The talent is there and therefore so is the potential However before this team can be successful the boys will have to leam that one man hockey doesnt work past the Tyke level This is a team game In addition no matter how badly you are hook ed slashed or high there is always the possibility the referee might not see it but he will always see the retaliation referring to the list below the pic ture This is the team that packed the old John Street Arena so many times we had to stand to see a game especially if it was a playoff It is sad to see many faces in the group that are no longer with us namely Scotty Patterson Joe Hall Gord Spence and Emie Thomp son If I am in error I apologize sincerely The splendid picture Roy Ward and Ken and Walt Richardson our kid line in those days I am very happy that Roy Ward has been chosen to be the honored guest at the Hockey Heritage Awards him and his predecessors are all worthy of this honor after so many years they gave to helping Keep hockey alive in Georgetown by playing coaching and instructing the young hopefuls as best as they could It is also a shame that Roys late wife Jean cannot be here to share his moment of glory however his family must feel a sense of pride in his achievements It would be nice to be able to turn back the clock and watch the speed of Kemshead the grace of Beau mont the kid line of Smokey and Walt the passing skill of Patterson and others too numerous to mention Thank you for the splendid photographs Time does change the faces of us all doesnt it especially when you take a real close look at Roy Ken and Walt Still the whole team of that era was one to be proud of especially in their new Raider uniforms you Respectfully
