As one of the Georgetown Figure Skating Club of the Ontario Juvenile Precision Team skating championships and the JuvenileNovice Precision Team skating invitational competition staged at Georgetown Gordon Memorial Arena Friday evening and all day and into the evening Saturday Karen Sykes felt that the success of the event bodes well not only for the local club but for the sport itself in area public perception While neither of the Georgetown representative teams the Juvenile and Novice Ice Dreamers mounted the winners podium both teams acquitted themselves very well lending to the success of thetwoday affair The Georgetown Figure Skating Club in conjunction with the Cen tral Ontario Section of the Cana dian Figure Skating Association cohosted the competition that saw skaters representing 32 teams from across Ontario descend on Gordon Alcott Memorial Arena Friday and Saturday The public response was ter rifle stated Mrs Sykes There was a crowd of well over 800 day night and welt over that again on Saturday People who didn t know Precision Team skating might have shown up out of curiosi but then they stayed and even came back because they liked what they saw We had countless complimentary remarks both for the event and the excellence of the skaters Precision Team skating has been likened to synchronized swimming but the skaters are required to display both technical skating skills originality and presence all in a teamoriented format Skaters were judged on compost tion originality and degree of in the routines in a variety of elements and presentation The actual competition itself can be confusing for the uninitiated In the Ontario Juvenile Cham section teams were divid ed into two flights with the top three in each flight advancing to challenge for the provincial title The bottom three teams in each flight then competed in the invito tional competition which was divided Into three flights to decide finalists for the Invitational Gold and Silver medal competition The Georgetown Figure Skating Club Juvenile Ice Dreamers didn make it into the provincial cham pionship round but did qualify to challenge in the Invitational Gold Medal competition and finished fifth The Ontario Juvenile Precision Team Skating Championship was won by South Windsor Figure Skating Club Rose City Second place was taken by Bramp ton Figure Skating Club Littlest Angels and third place went to Burlington Figure Skating Club Ice Image The Invitational Juvenile Gold Medal was won by Winter Club The MiniJets Figure Skating Club Royal Dlmen finished in second place and third place went to Figure Skating Club Heather s Honeys The Invitational Juvenile Silver Medal was won by Figure Skating Club Moonbeams Minto Figure Skating Club Mini Mints finished
