slipping past Derbys to claim the gold medal in the leagues playoff Day of Champions last Sunday at Gor don Memorial Arena The gold medal win for Royal Pizza gave the team a hat trick in 198990 season play as the squad finished in first place at the end of regular season play and topped the leagues playoff standings In the silver medal game Neanderthals got by Colonial Tree in the bronze medal game Kings and in the lead medal game Midas Muffler thumped Mutual Life ROYAL PIZZA DERBYS After a scoreless first period Royal Pizza moved ahead to stay in the second stanza on a pair of goals by Mike Reynolds to lead entering the third period The Royal Pizza defence stiffen ed while the teams traded single third period counters to allow Royal Pizza to claim the 31 gold medal win Dave Ashby scored the third Royal Pizza goal with Fred Har ris Doc Thompson Bob Sargent Tim and Charlie Knoepfll collecting assists for the winners Doc Thompson was selected the gold medal games Most Valuable Player Keith off passes from Ron Bell and David Pearson scored for NEANDERTHALS COLONIAL TREE An inspired third period com eback by the eventual winners highlighted the leagues silver medal contest Colonial Tree opened up a first period lead then were blank ed for the balance of the game Neanderthals scored once in the middle period then erupted for five unanswered third period goals to chop down Colonial Trees hopes Mike Martin scored twice and added an assist for the winners Kevin had a goal and an assist with Steve Christopher Don Richards and Ken Christopher counting singles Neanderthals medal game Most Valuable Player Bruce Bird had four Danny OConnor scored twice for Colonial Tree with Doug Gallagher and Billy McMullen adding singles McMullen also had a pair of OTOOLES KINGS OTooles came out firing from the opening and never let The eventual winners led 40 after the first period and after the second stanza on route to the bronze medal win Bronze medal game Most Valuable Player Jack scored twice for OTooles as did Paul Single goals went to Bob Hirst Dale Avery Geoff Parker Ron ebvre and Don Dares Dave and Bryan Whit each collected a pair of assists for the winners Brian earned the shutout in the OTooles goal MIDAS MUFFLER MUTUAL Mutual Life made a game of it through the first period with Midas Muffler edging ahead heading into the second period From this point on it was no con test as Midas Muffler led after two periods then through the third period to the 103 win Doug Scammell paced the lead medal winners attack with a four goal effort Guy notched the hat tnck
