bylaw to stop UAL stripping land The towns planning staff is cur rently considering the possibility of a forcing United Ag gregates to stop stripping the land on the south side of the companys property Pat Woode of the local en vironmental Ecological Awareness Group Landscape and Environment EAGLE urged town council Monday night to pass the bylaw because the group fears continued stripping will destroy the environmentally important area Councillors told its planning staff to conduct a study on the feasibility of a by law Ms told council the strip ping is the first step in the ag gregate needed The MNR has told EAGLE it cant stop the stripping but it will consider altering the United Aggregates quarry licence preventing it from quarrying the south side Ms told council the minister of the McLeod has agreed to meet with EAGLE as part of a coalition of en vironmental groups on the issue The meeting will happen in the near future Ms told coun cillors Both the NEC and the town of Milton have supported the pro posal that an environmental assessment of the area be carried out A Milton staff reporter says if current quarrying in the area in creases the drinking water in Georgetown could be con taminated Councillor Al Cook asked if EAGLE wanted United Ag gregates to stop all quarrying Giusseppe Gori of EAGLE told the councillor no but the existing quarry will be exhausted in the next five years EAGLE also asked council to support an environmental assess ment to petition the MNR to alter the United Aggregate quarry licence and to support the Halton Region
